IdTechLauncher.exe application crash when exiting to windows
Anyone else getting this weird issue:

Go to the search bar in windows and type “reliability monitor” - bring up the program and check to see if you have a critical events named “IdTechLauncher.exe”.

I appear to get these every time I close the game. I’m not getting any in game issues or performance problems; no crashes or anything like that. I’ve sent a report to Bethesda already, but I’m wondering if other PC users are experiencing the same problem. I already know of two others who are.

Thanks!

So far I've tried - updating the game, updating windows, validating files, deleting IdTechLauncher.exe then validating the files, running IdTechLauncher.exe as admin. Not sure what else to try... HELP!

UPDATE:
Been in touch with Bethesda support a handful of times now and here are the troublshooting steps they've suggested. NOTE: none of these work, but if you reach out to Bethesda support if you're experiencing this problem, it might be worth mentioning that you've also tried these steps to fast track the process.

-----------------------------------------------
- running the game without overlays like RTSS, MSI AB, Steam overlay, etc. - This had no effect on the crash events.
- adding an exception to Windows firewall for IdTechLauncher.exe - This had no effect on the crash events.
- making a new, clean Windows user profile and running the game there - This had no effect on the crash events.
- uninstalling MSI AB and RTSS - this was a really dumb suggestion from Bethesda support - This had no effect on the crash events.

-----------------------------------------------

I'll continue to update this thread with more information as it appears. My feeling is that this is a problem on Id's side and there's nothing we can do on our ends at the moment.

The game is still working for me, but I get these event errors that says IdTechLauncher.exe has crashed when I exit the game.

I am getting this too. Note that I got the game via xbox gamepass pc rather than steam, so it seems to be happening on all pc clients then ... I tried installing it using both the gamepass pc client and battle.net client, both giving the same error in the event log when exiting the game.

Interesting. Thanks for posting. I don’t think everyone is getting it, but probably a lot more than are aware of it (since it doesn’t show a pop up and most people don’t check event viewer).

I contacted Bethesda and they told me to turn off RTSS and MSI AB and allow IdTechLauncher.exe as an exception through my anti virus. Neither had any effect sadly. Still talking to them but they take a while to respond.

I’ve also tried a complete reinstall. Validating files. Deleting IdTechLauncher and validating files.

Nothing works.

I think it’s nothing to worry about because it doesn’t affect gameplay.

Please do a report for Bethesda so we can get more eyes on this. It’s def an issue with the Launcher.
Same situation on my end. Game is running great, no crashes or stutter, but get the idtechlauncher crash on game shutdown.
If it weren´t for the “reliability monitor” i wouldn´t even know the crash happend.

I once had a similar crash with another game, same situation. Back then a reinstall of the microsoft visual c++ files solved the problem. I will try is an see if the error persists.

System i9 12900ks, rtx 4080 super driver 590.94.

Thanks dude - can you let us know if that works and provide instructions?

Also, if it doesn’t work, please let Bethesda know via their online form. Let’s get some eyes on this.

I don’t think it’s actually causing any problems as it appears to be a minor bug. Possibly even a Windows issue (as you suggest).

I just updated the microsoft visual c++ libary files, however the crash after shutdown still remains. I filed a report to Bethesda.

Thanks - I thought as much. I think this is a problem on their end.

At least it doesn’t affect the game / gameplay.

Rtx 4060 here and have the same problem here, but this is not the first new-ish game which is doing this so I'm getting kind of used to it lol. As long as game is running fine and won't randomly crash I'm ok with it.

What other games does this occur in for you? Nothing I’ve played does this.

Delta Force: Hawk Ops and Palia are two of the most recent I remember doing this.
Now that I think about it It may not even be games fault, but my configuration and restrictions I have put in place (firewall settings), but I'm not 100% sure about it since older games are not having this issue.

I’m currently trying to troubleshoot this with Bethesda and the first thing they suggested was to put in place a firewall exemption for IdTechLauncher.exe - this didn’t stop the crash report for me.

I think it’s either an issue on their end or Windows. Please put in a report wi the Bethesda so we can get some attention on this.

Out of interest, which driver version is anyone using ? Is someone using the recommended driver 572.40 on Nvidia and experiencing this crash ? Would be interesting to know since most of Bethesdas workarounds revolve around graphics drivers.

I still use 560.94 because it is the most stable driver for all my current applications and it still runs Doom TDA despite the warning at the start.

I’m on the latest driver. I haven’t had any issues with black screens or crashing on my end with any Nvidia drivers over the last year or so. I have a feeling that these crashes might be due to factory over clocks and instability.

That’s said, I haven’t tried older drivers to test this specific bug because Bethesda support haven’t recommended it yet. In fact, I doubt they would recommend it since, as you say, the pop up at the start recommends the latest NV driver.

Are you getting the error message even on the older driver you’re on now?

Edit: I should also add the second support message I got from them was to make a new windows user profile and test the crash on there. Even on a completely fresh profile, I’m getting the same thing. Starting to think support is just throwing generic suggestions at me.

This is definitely an issue on their end. Not sure how this got through QA.

I get it in log when closing game. Avowed used to do the same until an update fixed it. Seen worse bugs on game launches
