VRAM Usage?
Hi guys. I have a laptop with an 8GB Nvidia RTX 5060. In the game settings, it says VRAM usage is around 7GB and is highlighted in red, but total amount shown is less than that, around 6GB? Since ray tracing is required, what graphic settings should I lower and/or adjust to get best performance? My laptop native res is 2560*1600. Even though I have game installed, I have yet to start a save. Thoughts and help appreciated :)

set everything too low to get the best performance or set everything tooo the high graphics preset but lower the texture pool size to the loowest to save some vram space

Thanks for the info! Um, what is Texture Pool and what does that setting do?

It sets the max size in VRAM the game will go dumping textures in basically
increasing it ups VRAM use, a lot.

When thinking about VRAM remember, it is like system RAM.
Some of it is used for normal mundane stuff.
So if you have 8GB or VRAM, all 8 is not available to a game to have its way with.
Hence seeing RED when the game shows under 8GB proposed use

Keeping the texture pool low might let you bump up a few settings to look nicer.

Also, try to run the game at 1080p
it might work nicer on a 5060 mobile and drop vram use allowing you to raise some settings

Game will run if you exceed vram but when it is forced to page out to system ram, it will run terrible, like it is having a coronary

I personally play with everything at the absolute minimum (Handheld/Off for everything as low as it can go) but with Low geometry and Max texture filtering with FSR Q. It looks good, then I do r_SkipFog 1 which boosts performance and greatly improves visibility, then r_RaytracedReflections 0 which boost performance more. and gets me almost 200fps afterwards. those last two commands require a console unlock mod tho so you have to make a nexusmods account to get it.

Just curious.
What are you running the game on?
Some reason i thought you had like an RTX 5090?
i dont trust this numbers. i have 4060 laptop with 8gb. The game shows me i have 6987* total memory. With my current settings it's 7200 (and it's also red).
No issues.
80-100 fps.
(dlss 4.5 / frame gen preset A - for minimum input lag, super resolution preset M) VRS - turned off.
picture is great, but if u need a more and more fps - just downgade the settings and find your personal picture-perfomance balance.
numbers is nothing.

Just FYI
The game will reflect what is available, not the total physical amount.
Not 100% of VRAM is up for grabs to a game.
Some is needed for other normal non game things

for what exactly? 1GB for dekstop wallpaper? even is that truth - in the end it doesnt matter because game runs fine.
other games shows more, so my question now is - wr is the mistake then?
in Doom it more looks like "just in case" value. Not the actual memory you available.

im not sure this 1gb really using when you playing a game, because ive seen what really happening when you dont have enough vram. Crazy stuttering and fps drops, but stable 80 - 100 smooth fps doesnt look like i dont have enough memory even it shows 7200 of 6900 available - thats my point.
and btw - same settings on release shows less vram and staying in yellow zone (not red), after one of the updates for some reason it shows more than before. perfomance stays the same. thats why i said dont believe this numbers.

You can use other tools to confirm
And the game is estimating worst case scenario.
Not all maps/scenes will have identical use.

Try loading something large, like the siege.
Checks out here pretty close to what game estimates.

Yellow usually will be OK
Red, if it hits an area that puts it in a VRAM deficit, will force it to page out to system ram which is grossly slower than VRAM and then chug chug chug, things get ugly.
well...idk..
in worst scenario it's 75-80 fps (total mess on the screen, demons, projectiles, effects and map itself. example - ressurection chapter. big location)
if you just chillin between fights and walking around - 95-100 fps.
no issues.
