Cthulhu bothers me.
I don't know why but this was the moment I just thought wow this is not Doom anymore. I was already teetering with the space marine stuff, but as how that's how doom guy started out i could buy it but Cthulhu just seems to much like someones fanfiction.

Yeah, the old ones have no place in DOOM. H.P. Lovecraft would've written DOOM if they did.

please write your thoughts on what happens after you witness 1st cutscene of 19th lvl, i'm very interested)

shall do.
So I Ended up enjoying the story for what it was funnily enough although it did not feel like a doom game more like a new IP. Personal if someone asked me should I buy it I would tell them to get any of the other two over this any day.

Gameplay feels closer to classic Doom than anything 2016 or Eternal did. Maybe it's not like those two games, but it's certainly still Doom.

I get it. That's how I felt about platforming in Doom Eternal.
Doom and Quake are in the same universe.

So this is just a little bit of that.

Tbh, from the looks of the game it looks more something from diablo, elder scrolls and warhammer than a anything from doom.
It has bethesda not only attached with the product but also it looks to be that it has more the soul of bethesda than anything id.

Mechanical dragons/shield parry combat\cthulu all speak to this was more of them thinking a bit too much elder scrolls in the design phase than what makes doom well doom...
When your game reminds people too much of other titles than the one on the cover something went wrong imo.

Would have probably been a decent new ip but few companies want to start new ips and run that risk of it not selling so they of course attach it to an old one and hope that the name makes the sales because the content may not.

I remember from my school and university days when a professor would critique a paper and write with that famous red ink that your paper needs more focus and clarity as to what your overall idea is supposed to be.
What is your paper trying to say \ inform the reader about?.

It hurts a title when you say let's go with that idea and someone asks what idea and the directer says all of them....
Throw ALL the ideas into the game.

I would kill for a remake of the first Quake.
The eldrich stuff is more e reference to Quake, since ID has built up a multiverse involving all their games and, low and behold the eldrich stuff was the main baddies of the first Quake

H. R. Giger's 'biomechanical' art style would suit DOOM better, as that is essentially what the Arachnotron is.
