How to get armor (like Eternal)

Hi guys,

I have now spent 20 hours in Dark Ages on Nightmare. And I ask myself the question, how can I get in game armor, like for example in Eternal? With the flamethrower? I know I can upgrade the shotgun to set enemies on fire, but it's not at all comparable to Eternal.

Drops and pickups, and you want the Smelt upgrade for your shotty, burns enemies and they drop extra armour.

flail and shotgun only. i would say this: don't even bother with trying to get armor in this game, because apparently devs decided to downgrade this system (as many others) to 2016 level

Yeah, your armour tops up constantly as you fight and nobody can miss this, but presumably OP wants to do better than that.

The fully upgraded Flail is awesome because it gives you armor from the enemy you hit AND any surrounding enemies. If you combine that with the shotgun, you can really keep the armor shards flowing in.
