Poor performance on a 3080? HELP
TL;DR: Running a 3080, 32gb ram, and an i7 10700k, getting around 30 fps at 1440p with DLSS Balanced... that doesn't seem right. Any ideas, tips, tricks?

I've DDU'd the driver, reinstalled, and the gpu usage hovers at 90+% all the time according to msi, and I'm at my wits end here. No other game is doing this poorly, and a steel nomad 3dmark run shows an above average score, so it's definitely game-specific.
Running Game-pass version in case that's relevant!

10gb vram ? Watch this, 3080 was a good card at the release but now, its very bad cause of vram

Sorry brother but you're going to have to be a 1080p chad in this game VRam limitations and all. Also frame gen helps a lot and works well with ID tech 8.
Try to lower your Texture Pool in the settings. Framegen + DLSS needs additional vRAM.

Your CPU is dated. There's a reason the store pages have recommended system requirements.

For for 1440p/60fps/High Quality the listed the lowest Intel gen to achieve 60fps is 12th gen. You are two gen's behind. It's just the way it goes games are sadly also becoming more and more CPU heavy with all the up scaling crap being pushed.

I do get I'm absolutely behind on CPU, but given that the CPU isn't even working particularly hard right here according to the load usage, that seems like a weird stopgap?

I though so too... but lo and behold, 1080p gets me around 40fps, no more.
And I'm not maxing out the VRam by any means, I've got about 3000 free.

What driver version are you on? Also are you using frame gen and dlss?
also while your overall cpu usage might be low have you check to see if a single core is loading up and caping?

You need to drop that one slider all the way down to 1576 to help with the low vram issue, did you try that yet? I just noticed you have low cpu usage, that would say to me it's just the architechture of the cpu is old and not coping well at all with the engine it would seems, maybe a new cpu in that mobo slot is possible, look at used for cheapest options?

use game default setting. I have with RTX 5070 in Ultra setting with TAA 70-90 FPS in 1440P

Nah it's pulling it's weight still. I'm getting 80fps on high with DLSS enabled. Considering how demanding this game is, it was worth getting. The 3080 is definitely feeling it now though lol. Calling it a very bad card now is a pretty big overstatement.

The only thing I can think of is your CPU maybe. I also have 32gb of RAM and a 3080 and I get solid performance mostly on high settings with DLSS but I have an i9 10850k.

Your CPU is 100% the issue. You'll notice on the in-game performance metrics your CPU frametime is averaging 27.5ms. That's roughly 36fps.

Even though the overall CPU usage isn't very high you likely have a single thread that's getting maxed out, or possibly an issue with the CPU cache, that's causing the bottleneck

Just an update. Sure you can lower your settings until it will eventually run at 60 fps on your CPU, but it won't be high settings. The game will end up looking like a washed up pile of :pooplaugh: . I mean if that doesn't bother you that's fine. For me it would ruin immersion specially once you get used to a full 1440p ultrawide. You're still fine for high settings with the 3080 tho as that is what they list as the minimum. Just do your research when buying your new CPU assuming that's what you decide. Intel is a shadow of its former self and whether their new CEO will save them in next gen will remain to be seen. Wiith AMD skip 3D editions cpus as they turned out having issues.
