The level design, lighting and sound in Doom 3 is still unbelievable. The environments in recent Doom games don’t come close.
Just watching clips of Doom 3 makes me want to replay it.
Watching clips of The Dark Ages does nothing for me. Not only that, but the gameplay looks just like 2016 and Eternal. Which id are aware of which is why they’ve added the shield, dragon and mech. Three terrible decisions.
Doom 3 is my most played game out of all in the series, and I think it has a lot to do with atmosphere. I'm willing to tolerate weird decisions and mechanics if I like the atmosphere. That's about where I am with Dark Ages as well. It's got some funkiness about it, but the overall atmosphere is cool enough for me to enjoy it.
Yeah I don't get why people were bashing all over it. It was an attempt at trying to make the game more horror-like. Sure, it didn't work, but plenty of ideas don't succeed right away.
This makes Doom 3 the worst Doom game in the series.
I was playing it the night before it came out and my boss was jealous af. He was a gamer too. I came in late the day after it leaked, and he called me into his office. Everyone thought it was because I was in trouble for being late, but we were just talking about the game.
As much as I liked Doom 3, it's the least Doom of any of the Doom games.
Does anyone else remember/had the same sort of watershed moment like 3/4 through the game where you stopped very carefully and tactically crawling through the game to just kamikaze/ Leyroy Jenkensing the game? It was something that hit me and my friend at the same time. It was cool af at the beginning to kind creep through, but then you sort of got over it and were ready for the game to kind of get to the end.
idk if I'm explaining it well.
