The game was great (especially later half was a blast) Why the hate?
I thought it was great and had its own unique charm. Actually glad it didn’t stick to the same mechanics as its predecessors. It starts bit slow (first half of the game) then once you combine everything you learnt the combat just becomes so satisfying... It was true that mech and dragon fights were bit monotonous, but I liked the variation. The atmosphere was amazing... loved the gothic medieval and Lovecraftian vibes. The music was good (but not as good as Mick Gordon's, that I agree with, there was nothing that catchy but still was a banger), gameplay was fun... I don’t understand the hate. When I said it was great and simply mentioned my favorite scene in the game, I got downvoted to oblivion on Reddit for whatever reason XD I guess it just proves you can't ever fully satisfy gamers. :steamsalty::cozybethesda:

The hate is mainly because of the price and forced RT which made it over 2X more demanding than the last DOOM.

It also doesn't help we went from 2016 speed to then Eternal speed to now Dark Ages slowed down speed, it was bound to make a bunch of fans of 2016 and Eternal mad.

Id seems to like changing things up with each game of DOOM from 2016 to Eternal to now Dark Ages, so each of them have there own core fan-base that likes there certain play-style over the other, Eternal also got a lot of hate because of how different it was to 2016.

Then there's the people that hate on game's because of the low steam number as well so some hate from there as well.

Over all I think it''s pretty solid not sure if I like it more than 2016 or Eternal yet I plan to replay them soon to see but yea it's not one thing it's a multiple of things, the general consensus is it's a good game just priced badly and just not as good as the other two game's.

Console centered gameplay with button combos, game became way too easy, big arenas with small amount of enemies.

So many people that upset about an additional $10 or whatever. Seriously.

Pathetic.

Certainly different from the two most recent predecessors, but that's a good thing. Only half way though, but liking it quite a lot. Too early to say if I'll love it as much as Eternal and 2016 though.

...yeah I'm enjoying it more than Eternal, I think.

Which isn't to say Eternal wasn't also very, very good. I just really like the shield/parry management more than air dashing for an arcade shooter where you're not supposed to use cover. When I die, I feel like I messed up a parry or misused a resource rather than I didn't see a demon throw a projectile immediately after coming around a corner behind me.

If collectibles are going to be tied to upgrades, I'm glad at least they're much less annoying to complete in Dark Ages. I enjoy actually needing to decide what weapon upgrades are equipped rather than mod hotswap. And gold feels better to me than battle points and achievements. It's harder to end up just never upgrading a weapon because you're not focusing on killing the specific enemy type with the specific mod or whatever.

There were some layers to the rest of Eternal's upgrade system which were kinda neat, but they tended to be along the lines of passives that just increased your charges or decreased cooldowns. You tended to upgrade them and then just be able to throw more grenades and never really make a decision about it. They were a little dopamine hit like once and then you never thought about them again. The shield and melee loadouts make up for it.

I really love the aesthetic, though the music is weaker. The guns are pretty glorious. After all the complaining, I would have thought the dragon would be more annoying, but the flight model isn't terrible, and the action is satisfyingly arcadey and gratuitous.

And the levels are fantastic. Sprawling open war on the demons, with many segments which aren't strictly linear. Haven't really had to do much backtracking, either.

...all in all... I feel like it's on par, arguably better than Eternal, though taste will be a factor.

The hate is from those who can’t play the game it’s as simple as that.

This has too much logic and sense for the forums. Get out of here and don't come back until you're jaded and bitter. Sprinkle in some entitlement while you're at it :steammocking:

Not entirely sure, people wanted eternal 2.0, but this is a prequel. apparently an rtx 2060 is too new of a card for some people too and were mad about the forced RTX, of which is going to be more and more common as time goes on. Yeah, the lvl of whining in here has been next level, not dismissing all of it, I know people are genuinely critical, and a lot of that comes from a love for the series, but the rest of it, yeah, its just trying to drum up attention or its a dummy spit.

Yeah, this game only gets really good from like level 5-6 onwards. I feel like they botched the start. It's kind of boring and easy for the first few levels, even on Nightmare. The dragon level is a JOKE.

But when it gets good, it gets good.
