I had it the same way as you. But after midgame it became very addictive as the game goes into high gear.... and now on my 2nd run I think this game is amazing! Loving it and all mechanics are now "instincts and reflexes".... But initially I went into it with same state of mind. Now I think its a great game very well put together that stands on its on as an experience.. But the more you learn and become better and the combat eventually becomes brutal and refined- the more DOOM it will feel! Trust me.. I was disappointed and had other expectation at first and the negative overwhelmed med first half of game first play through. Now it all makes sense and I and actually happy that we got a completely different experience! But what now worries me the most is that ID SOFTWARE had the most incredible and optimized engine with Doom Eternal. This was truely one of a kind in terms of what it could do on screen at the same time for an AMAZING performance budget!

Now with RayTracing forced baked in- the performance demands are double at least and in some cases quadruple the performance cost! I am NOT a fan of that! And I even got a 5090!

Eternal: NO DLSS, NO FG, optional disable antialiasing!
TDA: Forced DLSS as TAA is worse, Forced FG 2X at least in my case at 4K, Ultra Nightmare settings @ 120hz. I do run DLAA DLASS. I tested disable antialiasing via console- it does work BUT breaks FG. So basically not working. THIS on the other hand would John Carmack NEVER have allowed! Either he coded some out of this world code even if it meant implement RT. OR he would not see his masterpiece engine take a 2-4x performance hit!

Right.. keep on playing then.. as it becomes better. It starts a bit too slow but this is meant to be a prequel to DOOM (2016) not a sequel to DOOM: Eternal.

I was in the same boat as you initially, but from Level 3 onwards it started to kick in for me.

Can you let us know what Bethesda says when they reach out to you? Obviously, if "The Real Fragamemnon" is putting a game down it simply won't sell, and basically, you have the power to speak into existence the "Death od iD" with as much influence and sway as your voice has.

Have they already reached out? What changes have you asked for? Will they pull the title completely as they work on your changes, or will they leave it up for us peasants to play as they tailor the Doom: TDA experience to your desired tastes?

Please keep us in the loop. I'll be watching this thread waiting for you to tell me it's something I should play.

They have great skills and their engine is great, too bad they got big corpo`d and shoved RTX down peoples throat and decided to eye gauge with this price.

Edit: Honestly ♥♥♥♥ like this(forcing RTX) makes the game feels like an ad.
