please make it so you can activate sprint in any direction
Only being able to activate sprint using forward is really annoying especially during combat. Make it like classic doom where you can do it in any direction.

Have you tried auto sprint? Working well for me. That way you can use shift for melee too if you want.

You still have to hold forward first in order to sprint, but it does get rid of the annoyance of having to press the button every time you move.

Also if the speed lines in the corner bother you make sure you turn off screen effects. Also gets rid of that annoying red overlay when you're close to death.

Oh, really? Sorry OP, didn't know you had to press forward still. Hopefully it's better this way though at least.

That's such a cool option, and I'm so glad they included it. My only gripe with it is this: I wish when it were turned on, pressing the Sprint key made you 'jog' (i.e. move at the default speed), so that it's effectively inversed. The reason why is sometimes I still want to move around at a 'normal' speed to carefully analyze the environment, or maybe carefully position myself for a jump, and different things like that. It's a shame that enabling the Auto Sprint option totally takes that away from you.

One example of how I wished it behaved is how the classic Doom games (or at least their source ports?) handle the "Always Run" option. If you turn this on, you're always sprinting without the need to touch the Shift key. If you DO decide to hold Shift, though... you walk! So you don't completely lose the ability to walk, it just sort of inverts things, which is really convenient.

Agreed, that would be a nice option. I could see them adding it in the future. Much like some games have a keybind for slow walk, they could add something similar.
