Fix for 6GB VRAM cards
Ah, so the game developers, in their infinite wisdom, decided that my trusty 6GB VRAM card wasn't worthy of ray-traced global illumination, plunging my gaming experience into a visual abyss, leaving the visuals looking like they're aspiring to be more historically accurate to the actual Dark Ages than the game's setting. Bless their cotton socks for trying to save my GPU from itself, I guess?

Anyway, in a moment of "what could possibly go wrong?", I borrowed a little trick from Dr. Jones's latest adventure. Just chuck the files into the game's main directory, run it, and suddenly, ray tracing is back...

Tested on Xbox Game Pass version of the game.
Getting decent 60FPS on my RTX 4050 @ FHD with medium DLSS and highest settings (except for texture cache size).

That's great, thank you!
Can't test it right now, so, does it affect performance somehow?

On my setup, by a small margin.
This worked for me thank you!

Yup, that did it

Gotta ask, though this feels dumb as hell already...

How unavailable is this game to those with old GPUs?

Got a GTX 1650, yeah, delusional to even think of this game with that card, but you know, sometimes one still feels like finding out.

I could play Eternal just fine on that piece of Hardware.

I feel like a No RT mod will be made for this game at some point.

Game developers these days feel like scammers that want to trick you into buying expensive graphic cards.

Wait but who scammed you? Where? How?

If you go to school and learn how to read, you will acquire the basic skillset to read the requirements for video games you consider buying.

Here, the relevant part:

>NVIDIA or AMD hardware Raytracing-capable GPU with 8GB dedicated VRAM or better (examples: NVIDIA RTX 2060 SUPER or better, AMD RX 6600 or better)

That's a minimum requirement. They left absolutely no shadow of doubt what is the minimum spec they expect you to have.

So again I ask, in what way were you tricked?

If you don't want to invest into appropriate hardware, don't be surprised you can't use software reliant on it.

Isn't the whole point of this thread that the 8GB VRAM thing is just arbitrarily put in there and a simple bypass made for a different game showcases this?

I am morbidly curious what the hell do you mean by "arbitrary"?

The minimum spec is there to create proper expectations and assurances.

The devs can't guarantee the game will run well on 6GB so they made sure to inform people of the situation.

People can mod the game if they want as OP of this thread did but if something goes tits up along the way or the 1% lows are absolutely disgraceful, developers aren't going to be responsible or provide support for unsupported hardware.

I hope this common sense take helps clear things up.

Clown. The game runs just fine on 60fps after bypassing their stupid limitation, same as Indy. No bethesda, i will not buy the new piece of ♥♥♥♥ graphics card to appease your meaningless minimum spec

"The game runs fine" is a meaningless completely subjective statement. Average fps can be 60, and the 1% lows can be in the 20s creating unplayable stuttering experience. It might be that the first few missions run fine. Maybe the dragon sections have issues because of massive data streaming firing off. Maybe even most missions work fine, but a couple don't.

ID Software or any other developer doesn't need or want to deal with users who read minimum specs and elect to ignore it. You mod your game to ignore minimum specs and have fun? Well, good for you mate. But if it breaks something don't complain. Enjoy.

except that people with better hardware are also having issues so your hallucinated ideal of developers guaranteeing performance with x/y hardware or "being responsible" as long as people use the specified hardware goes straight into the trash can.

If you want to know what I mean by "arbitrary", read the original post of this thread again.

At no point will any sane developer guarantee perfection, but they guarantee the game will run well.

And that's subjective, too but at least you have some expectation set by the minimum spec. It will launch, you can play through the entire game, etc.

If there are technical issues or malfunctions, then supported hardware with 8+ GB of VRAM will potentially get technical support and bug fixes or whatnot.

6GB will not get any attention because it's beneath the minimum spec. That's how this works.
