Id Tech 8 problem with low vram
So i've had the same exact issue with indiana Jones which uses idtech8 just like this game. Pretty much, i can play it no problem with my 8gb 4070 laptop, but when i try to use frame gen it degrades performance instead of multiplying frames. I keep textures as low as possible but nothing changes with low settings to ultra-nightmare. Barely a 10fps difference. Not sure if a fix was ever found for this. I can enable frame gen but it just stays broken with a 10 fps degraded performance.

also tried lowering resolution from 1600p to 1200p but no change, both in vram usage and performance (again, barely a 5 fps change)
Frame gen won't really help much in games where you're already bottlenecked by VRAM. It uses a lot of power to generate those extra frames so your real performance just gets worse. It's a feature with diminishing returns on the lower end nvidia cards.

I mean it's clearly an engine issue. It's never happened in any other game except these 2. It still happens when vram usage is under 7gb.
I just started the game and framegen is working. Everything set to nightmare and texture set to the lowest value. About 110 fps. No idea what I did different
I’m playing on Rtx 4070 laptop, and dlss frame gen works fine but it always stops working while playing for example anytime i interact with a shrine or hit the start button etc the frame gen simply stops increasing the frame rates.

I’m running 1600p dlss balanced with all ultra nightmare mode setttings.

I think it’s possible the vram is nearing its limit, and could be causing a conflict because early in the campaign it would so same thing on dlss quality, and when I lowered it to balanced it worked fine, however now it’s always messing up.
