You can actually start to see inklings of it as far back as DOOM 2016. It's why Olivia Pearce had a little pixie cut. The Doom Slayer is just post transition in this one where they stopped being Doomguy and adopted their nonbinary name. Sorry if you're not into it, but Doom has been woke for awhile.
