NO QUAKE, no Mick Gordon, NO CARE!
I am extremely disappointed with id Software, not only by still keeping Marty Stratton employed AND appearing on-screen for Promotion after All the Evil he committed, but above of all, just making another Doom game instead of making a spin-off of Doom ("DOOM Eternal is an introduction to Doom universe" - Hugo Martin), or much better, making the much desired and needed QUAKE reboot.
DOOM: the Dark Ages barely looks like a Doom game, as if it was going to be another IP, even Quake itself, but refurbished to be a DOOM game because it is bound to make more money for the studio. What happened with "QUAKE 6", teased in that white board in that "Indiana Jones and the Golden Circle" preview, cancelled or outsourced to Machinegames??! Machinegames looks a good replacement for id Software to make a Quake game, except it only knows to make single-player or co-op games, and a Quake game must have Multiplayer!
Then there is the Music, where, while it was more than expected than Mick Gordon would have nothing to do with it, it sounds so generic and bland that it is worse than anything his replacements Andrew Hulshult and David Levy even did for the Story DLCs of DOOM Eternal; neither of them are part of this upcoming game too, almost like if they didn't want to work for "that special someone". Either way, it is strange no one has come forward yet to take credit for making the OST for DOOM: The Dark Ages. I read a topic here speculating an "Artificial Intelligence" is responsible for making the OST of this game, and while it sounds ridiculous, it also sounds more plausible than I want to believe.
Another disappointment is that id Software still chooses to ignore what happened to the Doom Slayer between DOOM and DOOM Eternal, which could be a game on its own, and preferred to make a pointless prequel to DOOM to show him seemingly while he was one of the Sentinels of Argent D'Nur; we never needed a game set in that period. On top of that, it briefly showed Doom Slayer riding a Dragon in gameplay and piloting a giant Mecha, how the Hell is that a Doom game!?
Even in Doom lore, all of this shows a creative struggle id Software has with moving forward with the franchise. While base game of DOOM Eternal was very open-ended about how a sequel could be, the DLC "The Ancient Gods part 2" screwed Doom Slayer again by trapping the poor Doomguy in another sarcophage and turning him into the "Gordon Freeman of the Seraphims". It was respectable in the sense it showed Doom franchise could "rest" indefinitely freeing id Software to work with other IPs, but alas Greed spoke louder in Real Life and... more "Doom".
Anyway, I have Zero hype for this game to the point I marked Steam to ignore this game for me, and the only consolation I have is DOOM: The Dark Ages will be available day 1 on PC GamePass, so I could save a lot of Money to test this game IF I change my mind somehow. Good luck to whoever cares about this game.

P.S.: Oh, and try to avoid Grand Theft Auto VI at all costs, Bethesda/Microsoft. Or it will be a doomed battle.

i dont expect it to be bugged beyond unplayable on day one.

yet i better have my first impression when the game gets more or less polished. i not gonna complain on the game production, i leave it to you. you will suffer so i may rejoice, thats simple. when dark ages gets released i'll be playing something random else and don't blow a ♥♥♥♥. life taught me the patience
Hey, I’m not going to preorder it either! But I won’t do it because I’m poor. We are not the same.

yo dude, i even won't purchase it later. i'd love to, but bethesda prohibits their games in my region, so being rich doesnt help.

whatever, if they don't want my money i will torrent a repack like i had to do with eternal.

what, do you think i'll just stand there and take it? :sans:

Oh, a fellow Russian, I see. Yeah, I’ll try the Gamepass method, but if that doesn’t work, rutracker. That said, Dead Space remake is still uncracked, so that might be a long wait.

good riddance i played the original dead space back in the day, and remakes suck in general anyway, so i dont feel missing out on this one

we still can purchase redeem keys or gifts on shady markets though, but it is literal paying to the pirates like we had to do back in 90's buying the bootleg disks

hey, bethesda, stop cancelling us humble gamers! we did nothing wrong and you rob us of opportunities to be the good guys!

While I don't agree with firing Marty, make it right with Mick, or they won't get my money. Make it right with Mick, and show Quake some love dam it.

:lunar2019deadpanpig: It will never happen as long as Marty Stratton & his Accomplices are still employed.

If the Aussie dud is too desperate for Money, I suppose. Regardless, this new OST still sucks.

As long as they can know how to shred any competent composer can handle the ost of the franchise.

I agree.

Been playing the new Doom 1+2 re-release and the updated music is nothing like NuDoom and it's a good fit I think. So honestly, not even sure they need to be able to shred - just create some cool atmosphere and riffs that work with the action.

Bobby Prince knew how much he could rip off until it was seen as plagiarism but I miss this kind of OST.

MG's usage of distorded guitar was cool in 2016 and Eternal but it could get stale.

There's also Aubrey Hodges' more atmospheric ost for Doom PSX and 64 but it's a matter of fans (I am fine with 64 but I prefer og Doom over PSX) as well as TNT Evilution's OST which is closer to Doom 1&2 but are still different.

I miss atmospheric tracks as well (even for combat).

^I actually really like D64's soundtrack - one of the few things I like about that game lol.

It’s great! I know TNT is considered to be bad, and I understand why, but I enjoyed its mix of ambiguous huge spaces and “Doom cute”.

Honestly, I remember three bad maps from the game (Mill, the one with the big chasm I forgot the name of an maybe Mount Pain because of how it felt like two levels in one map) but it has a good enemy balance and great OST.

Shame that the level design was lacking in some parts. Plutonia on the other hand had better levels (despite some being taken from Doom II like Slayer being O of Destruction) but had awful enemy placement (who thought that having an Archvile in Map 01 was a good idea?).

I liked the idea of Plutonia having these "special teleporters" that made the wad feels unique whereas TNT felt like Doom 2.5 in its presentation.

There was also a drama about "paid mod" that people were thinking of when Final Doom had TNT in the last hour.

Anyway, I still think that Perdition's Gate is the best "third Final Doom Megawad" and that Icarus Alien Vanguard is the better Team TNT Mwad (and I can at least be thankful they created Boom which really changed the life of sourceports).
