I'm just so confused about the Doom Slayer
So people in other threads said Doom Eternal slayer is the same marine in Doom 1/2, which means he's Flynn Taggart.
Isn't the Doom marine just Earth Gov military marine (presumably NATO marine iirc he's an American)?

Then in Eternal, some doctor from the codex said he's like some ancient godlike warrior that has fought the demon hoard for millions of years or something.

On the other hand, according to the Praetor Suit texture files in Doom 2016, it was manufactured by an arms company, with the logo of the company on it and serial numbers.

Now we're seeing medieval ancient mythical stuff in what looks like an alien race war between the heaven and the hell.

I'm just so lost now. Isn't the Doom Marine an American military born in 21XX? How the hell does it work?

Anyway, I'm starting to miss the pre-Eternal vibe. Doom Marine was supposed to be that faceless silent soldier who fights against all odds from the bottom to the top. Sort of like the old Halo Master Chief.
Now he's being sculptured like some ancient god warrior hero idk.

He's supposed to be a down to earth human soldier that saves the world with his incredible resilience and bravery.

Btw I hope buttstroke melee from Doom 2016 will return tho.
The lazy punching animation for all weapon melee in Eternal is the same as the lazy universal knifing animation in older Call of Duty titles.

I think you may just need to watch a recap video on youtube.

We've seen his face since 1993.

Sigh...
Figuratively, not literally, of course.
I'm saying he should be a normal military dude, not some sort of Greek God.

Flynn Taggart is the book name. In the books the demons are actually aliens btw. They’re weird.

No I mean we literally see his face in the HUD in classic doom... which is the same face in Doom Eternal.

He was a normal military dude for about 3 entire games. It makes sense that he would be so dedicated to what he does he just evolves beyond just a soldier... he became the force that keeps hell in check after fighting for eons.

yeah after finishing Eternal I started to figure out we humans were caught between the war of the two alien races: heaven and hell

Yes, I know. He doesn't wear a helmet in Doom 3 either and we can see his face in cutscenes.
There's also a theory saying Doom Marine is Wolfenstein's BJ III.

But my problem is how did he fight the demon hoard for eternity? He's a dude born in 21XX.
Unless the aliens ♥♥♥♥♥♥ with the time and space stuff so Doom Marine got trapped in time.
If that's the case, then it's pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up. I feel bad for Doom Marine.

he is a normal dude in the dark ages. well im just assuming we'll play as pre-buffed slayer in dark ages. then at the end of the game, we probably see the buffing scene from eternal, and we become that super weapon the description talks about.

That’s not what happens in Eternal at all…

doom guy is a primordial being. he was never quite normal to begin with in reality. but aside from that, as normal as he was, it's just 90's video game logic. don't think too much about it. and he was in hell for eons.

Doom 3 and Resurrection of Evil Marines are separate characters in their own universe.

Alright, but I'm still interested in how his life was on Earth?
I mean, has he been around all this time, going through both World Wars, and lives to the future Doom-era and joined the Earth Military as a marine grunt?

idk the "angels" look quite futuristic alien to me.
There was some sort of energy deal between the heaven and the hell (that involves harvesting human souls) went sour.
Then ♥♥♥♥ hits the fan.
lolz the story in Doom post Eternal is confusing af whatever

he was born in 21XX like you said. his life was as regular and normal like yours and mine before the invasion LMAO

the only war he's seen, and experienced, is the demon war that we will no doubt be experiencing in TDA on the Sentinel planet, probably at the end of the game. but it being at the end of the game is of course just my guess. other than that, demon invasion on mars, phobos, and earth, and being in hell for eons are the only other war-like things he's seen.

Okay, but the events he has experienced (Sentinel planet, Mars Invasion, in hell for enos) sounds like millions of years in terms of time scale.
It doesn't seem like Doom 1 and Doom Eternal are millions of years apart.
I'm guessing time in hell goes incredibly slow so the Marine was trapped there and tormented for thousands of years but it was actually just a few years for the Earth time?

yeah he's been alive for quite a while. and you're absolutely right, time in hell works differently. eons in hell is just a few years for Earth time like you say.
