The Arachnotrons (via the Eternal lore) only came to be by trying to copy the Spider Mastermind, of which only there was ONE in Doom 2016.
Because TDA is a prequel, it means Olivia Pierce isn't a suitable host for the Spider Mastermind yet.
Well, hopefully this isn't some multi-verse plot or anything, but if it is, it's possible that this isn't the same universe as the Argenta one in 2016 and Eternal. If so, perhaps THIS version of hell doesn't have Arachnotrons.
The other possibility is this:
In the Ancient Gods Part 1, Samur said to the Slayer "I knew who you were the moment you set foot in our world and who you could become to us."
That implies that the Seraphim was NOT the person who brought the Slayer to the Argenta universe.
Remember, when Doom 64 ended, Doomguy closed the Hell portal and chose to remain in Hell to prevent the demons from becoming a threat.
The next time we saw him, he landed on Argent D'Nur and was captured by the Night Sentinels.
Because the Dark Ages is a prequel, and assuming this is still the same universe, it's possible this takes place millions of years before the Wraiths came to Argent D'Nur via their World Spear ship.
If so, perhaps Hell was still a very young world at this point, LONG before the first Arachnotrons were born.
I hope you know back when Doom 3 came out 20 years ago, I DID take that lore quite seriously.
Yes but they've taken lore from Doom 64 to be cannon, a game that I never played on the 64. Doomguy stays in hell which is where TDA continues it's lore yet they've thrown in to what it seems like Arachnotrons. Actually after close inspection they do look like oversized spiders with cannons.
Here:
"Angry space marine kills demons".
There's your Doom lore. The long and short of it.
It looks more like a gatling gun to me.
No thanks. We didn't ask.
