But as to why, it's mainly because Doom is more popular in this day and age. Heretic is only now relevant because Microsoft owns both Activision and Bethesda now (hopefully ending any ownership/legal issues that plagued that series for so long) and Quake hasn't had a mainline game in years sadly. Doom is just the safest option in terms of new releases.
If we get Hexen in current year, it'd just be Call of Duty with magic, with Ettins being relegated to QTEs and gargoyles turret sections. Everything else would be modern weapons, regenerative health, whack-a-mole shooting, and spell scrolls acting similarly to Advanced Warfare's Exo Launcher
True, but I would like to be able to buy Heretic 2 and Hexen 2's Portal to Praveus expansion, and hopefully as remasters similar to what they did with Quake 1 and 2 (support for modern systems, working music, etc.). As I said before, re-release the games that aren't currently available to buy before considering anything else, because right now only the first Heretic and Hexen games are technically feature-complete (never mind that you have to use a source port to play them on modern systems).
Heretic in current year seems to be Doom The Dark Ages.
It isn't. Its an ACTUAL good suggestion. I think Quake 1 and 2 would sell very well if they were remade.
At least for now we have the excellent remasters that make the old versions of Quake playable on modern systems, but I still feel this new game is being used to springboard Quake back into potential relevancy. There must be a reason they are using so much darker and almost gothic imagery this time around, and not just for Doom's sake. But that's just wishful thinking on my part I suppose.
Yeah I think so too. First Quake was set in a more dark fantasy/medieval world so it would make sense.
