DOOM: The Dark Ages

That trailer music...
Sounds very flat. Like trash gremlin Andrew Hulshult is doing the soundtrack. It's the most generic song that I've ever heard associated with Doom since they tried to emulate Nine Inch Nails for the Doom movie.

Yes, I know people are going to link to the Dusk OST and the two tracks he did in Quake Champions, while those tracks are good.. He kinda found his rut and is stuck in it. Same sound is never good because all of the games that use his music just start to play the same.

Hulshult's tracks for TAG Part 1 and 2 is the most generic he's been. There's expectations for Doom, and Hulshult blew under it. GeoffPlaysGuitar has a better version of his Davoth song. Blood Swamps sounds like it was found on his cutting room floor for one of the other games that he's done.

You can go about linking his other games, but Prodeus starts to sound like a broken record halfway through the game, and Dusk is nice because he leans more into his atmospheric talents more than 'boomer shooter metal'. Heck, another game I own that he did the music in is Amid Evil. The only -good- music in that, imho is his Arcane Realm songs, and the tongue-in-cheek remix of 'Shawn's Got The Shotgun' for the secret boss in Black Labyrinth.

In most cases, Hulshult's best song on a game soundtrack is the first one on the track and then a sharp quality loss follows, especially if the tracks of the game don't lean into his strengths. I'm certain that the songs linked from Prodeus are only his strongest tracks to assist his fans to prove that he's not a dumpster goblin that does music for all of the Boomer Shooters.

I swear he reuses the riff from Departure from Destruction, a Dusk track, in a lot of his tracks.

Sure game soundtracks do often require repeating motifs, like you can't disassociate Serious Sam from loud jungle/tribal drums and a mean brass line (yes, BRASS not BASS).

Andrew already said that he is not the author in charge, but I am still sure that this new Mystery Author will do a great job, if you don't listen to the trailer, those few seconds are perfect

No ♥♥♥♥, sherlock.

I hope for someone better than dumpster fire gremlin, Andrew Hulshult.

Keep in mind that the music you hear in the trailer isn’t necessarily reflective of the music that will appear in game. Similarly, the flatness may be associated with Wwise compression rather than the composition if the music does appear in game. What makes Mick’s tracks really stand out is the mix and mastering, not the arrangement, so making sweeping statements about the riffs in the trailer without hearing them properly mixed is a little presumptuous. Furthermore, the music in the trailer would scarcely represent a full track. Can you say with confidence that the entire track would be the same riff over and over?

I do think Andrew’s work in TAG 2 is weak compared to his earlier work and that of his contemporaries; World Spear, Reclaimed Earth, and The Dark Lord are very simple tracks that lack punch. However, both David and Andrew have confirmed that they’re not associated with The Dark Ages at all, so you’re disparaging the work of a currently unknown artist because you dislike Andrew.

It would be wise to reserve judgement about the music until more information is known.

Neither Hulshult or Levy imitated Mick's work. They wrote music that fits DOOM Eternal's vibe, and they did it well

... :murderer:
Neither Andrew Hulshult or David Levy are working on TDA.
At this point, this is just searching for an excuse to trash-talk someone because they... made music you didn't like. :squirtyay:

Yawn. Mick Gordon cringe for game yet again. Can we please stop talking about people pretending they have musical taste or "superiority"... music is an art form, not your stick you use for bonking people.

It doesn't make your opinion any more or less valid, you people are like a fart in the wind.

This Mick jock-riding morphing into Levy-Hulshult hate is pretty much the most wretched, deplorable ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I've seen in a while. "Gamurz" being groupthinking dregs as usual.

Way to add more toxicity to Mick's name, I'm sure he'd be ultra proud.

Yes, when you follow your own words.

I just don't like Hulshult's same-y, bland style of music. I don't have any opinion of Levy.
