2016 Doom > Doom Eternal
Eternal was a good game, but the gameplay loop and mechanics were a step backwards from the 2016 reboot.

Give us gameplay more similar to the 2016 masterpiece, please.

For one I didn't like how nerfed the melee was or how ammo was much scarcer.

There was also the big shift in tone/artstyle, lots of really out of place platforming props that don't fit the level.

Doomguy himself didn't have the same aura of this brutal, silent, faceless stranger he did in the first game that made him feel so mysterious and intimidating. It's as if in trying to construct an over the top 40k style lore around the character they made him feel less interesting. Less is more.

You have thousands and thousands of hours in other games on steam and own 2016 and you played it on a different platform?

Yea, not buying that buddy.
you know whats better than steam? $5 on ebay for a used console copy.

I would post a comparison but I legitimately have no idea what to compare Eternal to. AAA campaign-focused shooters are pretty much not a thing anymore.

You know what's better than a console copy? $59.99 on Steam for a PC version of the game and not being saddled with a DRM box that gets mothballed in 5 years.

This is a false metric to evaluate the value of DOOM Eternal to the playerbase. You must show how far people went into DOOM and DOOM Eternal, the achievements and how many actually enjoyed both games.
DOOM was released 12 years after Doom 3 with moderate hype. DOOM Eternal had a huge hype thanks to the foundation of DOOM, with very strong Marketing, so of course more people were impulsive to buy DOOM Eternal.
Yet, time proved that DOOM is the better valued game of the 2. In the end, only the niched more skilled players actually enjoyed DOOM Eternal, and not even the game director knew how to play it properly, let alone the more casual audience:

If DOOM: The Dark Ages tries to use DOOM Eternal as the foundation of its conception, it shall alienate further its potential playerbase. Be thankful DOOM TDA will be released for PC GamePass day 1, as I learned earlier today, otherwise much fewer people wouldnrisk to play DOOM TDA on launch!

Yeah a chart showing the exact number of players currently & all time.... Now you're arguing & deflecting against facts, really unhealthy mindset there.

Which has already been proven as wrong. I remember when trolls used to at least try.

Get your eyes checked maybe?

And yeah consoles suck. I'd pay a premium for PC every single day.

Not that you have to - mind you. I'm betting you can get Eternal on PC for about as cheap as you can get a physical copy (lol) on ebay.

Edit: and lo-and behold, it's now 9.99 during the summer sale. Still probably cheaper places to get a key than that.

I agree with Doom 2016 being a more fun game, in my opinion, to play. Eternal is to me, even on easiest, a constant stressfull experience in some areas where you instead for being a badass demon slayer where you can use the super shotgun to pwn everything you're forced to constantly juggle between weapons all the time due to always running out of ammo and having no small monsters to respawn that you can use the chainsaw on to refill ammo from.

If the game is like Eternal then it's a no buy for me but not because I think that the game is bad and should cater to my tastes but because it's not my type of fps game.

So fun to see how many also agree with me that 2016 is the better Doom game and DE did not live up to its standards.
But this will not last long, cause most people will leave the forum of an meh singleplayer game. What will remain is people who like to discuss games or hardcore fans with a black/white perspective.

I think a lot of Eternal enjoyers are also members of the Supermario Appreciation Secret Society and are unable to comprehend that platforming in a Doom game is possibly one of the most un-metal things ever.

In fact I think that plat sections in Eternal should have had dubstep playing over it or something equally cringe to set the mood right.
there's already a thread on platforming discourse on the eternal forum. go check it out to be educated!

another way to shut down your argument is that the game takes place in 21XX. would you not think humanity has become a little more enlightened on gender, sex, and identity more than 100 years in the future?
Absolutely NOT, after all, Mankind had to literally collect (Argent) Energy from Hell to continue being "civilized". Otherwise, Hell on Earth without even needing Demons.
oh damn, an energy crisis? a direct reference to the climate crisis that we in the real world are experiencing? POLITICS IN MY GAME MUCH? NO THANK YOU! I'm the old norm! I want normal beer!

Yes
And the constant looking for ammo thing just stops the gameplay flow.
Not much fun imho.

So literally every FPS ever made, good thing eternal has unlimited ammo & all i need to do is press a button.

The 2016 is better crowd sure do have weak excuses for being bad players.

Which was also one of the most named complains about DE. And they even explained why they went this road. Mainly to save time and work-load since it is way easier to let the player do the job and not think about game designing a good level and where to place the ammo, which would give the levels and the player a more enriched experience.
