well I found an interesting thread in reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/battlezone/comments/465qzp/redux_comparison_shots/
seems the models were changed but not much. They are definitely far from current standards.
It feels there are some changes but they are mostly subtle. And thus it is hard to tell what has been changed and what -- not.
The way I see it is the trailer in battlezone 98 will be closer to what the new redux game engine looks like, smoother curves, more mist and smoke.
One thing I'm hoping to see would be, and from the looks of the trailer it might already be there, an increase past the limit of 10 Offensive, 10 Defensive, etc. units.
The main thing this will do is give the community something to build on. Until now, Battlezone was an ancient relic from when Activision made phenominal games. Now it's for sale again on one of the largest online game distributors in the world. There will be new players that are finding it here in Steam rather than by word of mouth from those who played in the early 90s.
As...interesting, as that sounds, it seems beyond the capacity of the original engine.
Larger scale battles don't sound like fun?
I'm pointing out that it probably won't happen because that's quite a big change to gameplay. As cool as it sounds, I don't think (to the point where I probably know) they'll do something like that.
