Is VR support asking too much? :P
Vive etc..
Not VR Sticks, but keyboard and Mouse + VR headset. :3
Also, not full immersion, more like TF2's VR Support, so you can just look around a bit..

I think that would take a whole lot of work, and in the end might not even be worth it. Now if they are working on a new Battlezone I would say yes to this request...

It's not the same but it's on ps4's VR if you google it

It'd be cool just to have it be as a mouse look thing.

VR could work great with this.

The biggest difficulty from my understanding has to do with the rendering code. You do have to pull some tricks and shenanigans to get it working. Still be sick though, especially nice if the vive sticks could be used for command reticles.

I think they probably won't try it for a while, if ever as to not confuse it with the Battlezone VR for the playstation. Which is unfortunate; they're two very seperate concepts but, that's business for you.

Yeah, I would love to have some VR support for this, but I don't think it would be very likely, since I imagine it would be a ton of work to get it to function.

Watching rebellions youtube videos from few months back it came across that they intended to integrate VR to Battlezone Redux? from reading your comments I take it there is no VR support yet? shame really as I would buy a headset just for this game alone..

Rebellion have two Battlezone games; this one, and the VR arcade version. Making this into a VR game would take an awful lot of work.

Yeah the work required to make VR work in BZ98 would be extreme. Not just technically but the cockpit assets would also need to be reworked. You'll notice if you gain the right momentum the cockpit falls off the screen. Also if you look at the ships many of them don't have much in the way of viewing angles. The Razer could would have visibiliy but the Grizzly, you can't even see the cockpit from the outside. It'd be more practical to bolt a side mirror on it if you wanted more visibility.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was less work to port the BZ98 units to BZ VR than trying to introduce VR to BZ98.

You both make a very good point, although it would be very nice to have a awesome childhood game brought forward even more to the future it would require too much work as you stated (sadly) :(
If there was a kickstarter fund for such a thing I would definitely contribute

As for the Battlezone VR I see it is due to be released on Steam but there is no date given or the Steam page to pre order.. I take it the game is a long shot away from steam release then?

This game was in development for a few months before it was publicly acknowledged. Nine and a half months passed between its first mention and official announcement, and another month before released.

The VR title is a much bigger venture, so we can expect those periods to be a great deal longer. They're unlikely to be the relative either, so these periods are just for vague reference.

From my understanding BZ VR is set to launch around or along side the Playstation VR system. So keep an eye out for that launch date and you should get an idea of the PS4 release. Chances are Playstation may have some exclusivity over it for a period of time so it may not be released on steam that day.

Edit: Seems Playstation VR is looking at an October 2016 Launch. I'd expect BZ VR released in some format before the years end.

Surely you can play this just using a vr headset as a monitor?
You could get vr glasses that were just monitors like 10 years ago, still be pretty cool to play this like that.
Richo May 17, 2016 @ 8:35am
Probably could do that using Virtual Desktop, but it won't be VR. What makes VR is the head tracking.

It'd be cheaper to just pull your monitor so close it is an inch off your nose.

I'd definitely like to see VR support, especially seeing as you could do things like have a separate command cursor locked to your gaze while your usual aiming reticle remains locked forward.

However, I'm not counting on it for this particular game. Cockpit assets need to be overhauled, and so does the engine itself in all likeliness.

Maybe the new PSVR-first Battlezone will end up with an RTS mode we don't know about yet, but I'm not counting on that either.
