Is Battlezone II out?
If not it needs to be....

I just stumbled into this game in the backwoods of Steam searching. I had alot of hours logged into BZ and BZII during College days. That said...I had a far better time with BZ II...is that getting a refogging?

There is BZ CC. The missions and game play remain the same. The graphics, models, and AI were touched up. Just give the screen shots a good look trough. Its a bit more demanding than the original, don't expact a toaster from 2002 to runsame at the same FPS.

Yes, at least atm as a broken contract's effects are currently pending.

I gave a rough explanation of why this isn't the case here, but here goes:

Activision licensed the Battlezone name from Atari in order to make these games. That much is obvious. The part most people don't realise is that that license was limited, only allowing a certain amount of use. As they started to reach the limit of what they could do with the name, Activision created a subtitle to move away from it. They knew this would work; they did the same thing to continue the Call to Power series when their license to use the Civilization name expired. Any future game in the series would have been called Combat Commander II, and would have belonged wholly to Activision. Unfortunately this never came to pass - and since Activision had failed to exert the control they would need to break free of the contract, ownership of the intellectual property returned to Atari (for reference, all of the information in this paragraph comes from employees of Activision and Pandemic).

A brief look at Activision's legal history reveals a company that's fairly litigious and protects its intellectual property very strictly. The releases of Battlezone 98 Redux and Battlezone II: Combat Commander were met with no small amount of fanfare in the gaming media; Activision are well aware that they exist. This is not a company that wouldn't sue because they don't care, especially when money is involved; if they haven't done anything, that's because they can't.

Now the question, Redux or CC? I'm guessing CC is better since it's the sequal?

It's a matter of opinion. They're fairly different games. IMHO, BZR wins on story and campaign, while BZCC is more large scale multiplayer friendly. I always find myself coming back to the first game, but the second is fun in its own right.

BZ1 in terms of gameplay and strategy, BZ2 doesn't appeal to me as "FUN"

CC is better looking, there is no doubt and the story is a bit more involved, but *for me* the vehicles and battles feel far too 'floaty' and light which significantly takes away from the gameplay. BZ1 ships feel like they're all heavy and floating just above ground - they clank around, shots feel / sound like shots and hits feel / sound like hits. When I'm playing BZ1 I *want* to be involved in the action, but when playing CC I want to command and avoid.

One of the big downsides to BZ1 was the utter stupidity of the AI (which was better on CC), but since they did the patches and the redux, the AI is much better.
