Right click OpenCanvas on Steam, choose properties. Then in languages tab, check the dropdown if it's in English or not. If it's not in English, just switch to English.
If it's actually in English, try switching to any language first, let it update, and then switch it back. Hope that works.
Before I started this thread I did both those things. It didn't work. So I tried again today and took some Snips (with windows snipping tool)
The links are safe, I would be stupid to exploit or hack when I've been 8 years here.
And finally I found a website which is not in the Steam filter.
ENGLISH LANGUAGE SETTING
http://prntscr.com/a12dv - settings
http://prntscr.com/a12elm - in OC 6
JAPANESE (AKA: MOONSPEAK)
http://prntscr.com/a12equ - settings
http://prntscr.com/a12exy - in OC 6
BACK TO ENGLISH
http://prntscr.com/a12f1e - settings
http://prntscr.com/a12f5g - in OC 6
Now the interesting thing in these three cases is that the menus and tabs are in Moonspeak, but the presets for pens and brushes are in Engrish. When switching languages, I deleted the presets to allow the app to re-download them in appropriate language. IDK if Engrish for presets is the default language if not, but for me they're in English, even in the Japanese setting.
Oh, and here are the snips from OpenCanvas 5 for comparison. I didn't switch languages here becuase as you can see, it's already in Engrish.
http://prntscr.com/a12f95 - language settings
http://prntscr.com/a12fgd - in OC 5
There you go.
As I mentioned earlier, it doesn't hinder me to work in the app, as OC5 is pretty much the same, so if I need to change something in the settings, I'll open OC5 and know where to look in OC6.
I just... don't get it. I checked the registry 6 times myself and apps like PowerTools to check for any problems. But nothing showed up.
Anyway, THX for the quick response, sorry for my late reply and HF people.
Do you have any close person who also uses OpenCanvas that's not bugging out like this?
I mean, try to get the copy directly from them instead of downloading it from Steam.
If needed, I can backup my OpenCanvas and you'll just need to restore it using Steam.
Thank you for advice guys, we'll see how it goes. Maybe I'll figure out what went wrong and post it here, so others can avoid this problem in the future.
See ya
Sorry for spamming the thread.
Apparently copying OC from my friend didn't work. It's still the same like before. I feel it might be something with the registry, this time I'll check every entry possible. I'll even check event logs again, to see what happened if something (or someone) might have tinkered with my stuff.
Hopefully I'll fix the problem and won't have to spam the thread. When I fix it, I'll edit my first post. Until then I'll keep posting comments here.
UPDATE 2
APPARENTLY (again) it's just the steam version. Downloaded their trial from the website and it's all in English. But now the steam key doesn't work, so that means I would have to purchase another license. I'll try to figure out if I can copy the English working OC to my steam OC and make it work in the correct language.
UPDATE 3
Alright, so, installing the English version of OC from their website, completly neutralized my steam CD-key, even if the trial is uninstalled and I'm launching the steam version through steam. RegEdit again didn't solve the problem. This is poopoo. Can't solve this. Don't know how. Lost interest. Contacting Portalgraphics about my CD-Key. I don't know HOW or WHERE the app stores it's settings, I think its in the .ENU file located in the same directory as the program, because foricbly adding my steam key to the Reg doesn't do poopoo. But the .ENU file shows no trace of the key thing in it. This is bizarre.
In the end, I can only ask one question: What Da F.
This was the most frustrating problem I've encountered. And I'm a programmer.
Thx and hf people.
Hope portalgraphics can resolve this quickly.
They aren't the best contact support, but they will respond. I am sure of that.
And anyway, if you didn't know, OpenCanvas Steam version's key doesn't work with normal OpenCanvas (the one that you downloaded on the website.
Also, one last thing. Try this one (if you haven't tried it, yet):
In registry, after installing the OpenCanvas from its website, try deleting the OpenCanvas Steam Edition Key and rename the OpenCanvas (the website one) key to OpenCanvas Steam Edition.
Portalgraphics should really get their ♥♥♥♥♥ together.
So I'm left with either Portalgraphics resolving the key issue and the reg. If that fails, well... there's the piratusbayus (yarr). I actually downloaded it yesterday to see if I can switch to it if reg and portalgraphics fail. So far that pirate one works like a charm. Oh well. At least I won't feel bad about, since I already own OpenCanvas.
And yeah, they should get their poopoo together.
I did the same. Deinstalled. Deleted the PNG folders in appdata.
The after reinstalling multiple times it always recognized my license without typing it in. I don ot know where this information is stored. Maybe it is this one? AppData\Local\PGN\openCanvas7
