About the infinity update progress (Opened for discussions)
Let's see how much of what was mentioned in these 2 dev jams have been added into Robocraft,

[The Big Free Infinity Upgrade]
https://steamcommunity.com/gid/103582791435802687/announcements/detail/1689297920462320691

[About the Tiers Update]
https://steamcommunity.com/gid/103582791435802687/announcements/detail/1739963962728426513

Please take note, this is not another one of those pointless Robocraft rants we've been all seeing. This discussion is to track the list of features that have been updated into the game and possibly get some more info about when each individual feature will get added.

The Big Free Infinity Upgrade

"Our goal is to get you the upgrade sometime in the next 6-8 weeks and we'll let you know when a more concrete date is set." - Since 19th July 2018.

Don't get angry, they're trying to do the best they can. Forget the fact that it's been over 8 weeks now and let's see the features that were updated into the game.

  • Infinity Inventory system
  • Infinity CRF
  • Infinity Duplication system
  • A new Item Shop - spend your hard-earned Robits to unlock Cosmetics for free

Tiers - this is being implemented in Infinity now so will come straight to Steam with this upgrade

  • More paint colours - 8 for free, 32 for Premium
  • Cosmetic Garage and Building bays
  • New Main Menu and UI
  • Improved CRF sorting algorithm
  • New improved weapons crosshairs
  • Massive improvements to Weapon Feedback and Fighting
  • Improved graphics, better lighting
  • Controls can be edited via the Settings screen even when in battle
  • Battle-ready Robot Check - Robocraft checks the user has functional cubes on the Robot and warns before they enter battle
  • Building hints, help users learn the advanced controls and can be hidden in Settings menu
  • Kill feed is colored when in battle mode so it’s easier to read
  • End of battle Robot voting screen
  • Popup tooltips on many of the buttons and options in the Main Menu
  • Improved network technology for improved reliability and connection to the
  • Robocraft servers and backend
  • New Unity version for improved performance and stability

This list has been shortened. Read the rest in the dev jam links. We already got weapon feedback out of the list. What do you think should be worked on the most and if you do have info about these features from devs, share it.

I find Battle Ready Robot Check, end of battle robot voting screen, more paint colours, cosmetic garages and the new item shop should be focused on, the rest is meh. The infinity upgrade is the core part of the update so it'll be the most difficult to work on and add but in the meantime, adding Battle Ready Robot Check wouldn't be bad. We really need it. No more dead weight allies XD. It's actually painful to watch. Now moving on to the Tiers section.

The Tiers Update

"We hope to have all of this done in the Infinity version of Robocraft within the next 3 weeks; after which we will plan to bring this all over to Steam as the next step." - Since 26th July 2018.

*Looks at calendar*
I'm not really angry... Because I distract myself with building some bots. It's September already. I just hope they have their reasons for this. Let's take a look at the list.

  • There will be 5 standard Tiers plus one for Megabots (T1-5 and TM)
  • Each Robot part will have a Robot Ranking and this will be displayed as a stat in the Inventory screen
  • Each Robot part will also be renamed to follow the previous Tier naming convention: eg. a Laser Wasp will become a T1 Laser, and a Laser Leviathan will become a T5 Laser*
  • All Robots will be placed in a Tier; this will be based on the total sum of the Robot Rankings of all the parts used on that Robot
  • As you build a Robot, it's Robot Ranking and Tier will be clearly shown, so you’ll be able to easily optimize your Robot for each Tier
  • Any Robots built above 2,000 CPU will be regarded as Megabots and will be placed in the Megabot Tier
  • When you enter battle you will be match-made with other Robots of the same Tier
  • New players will not initially be able to play in any Tier other than Tier 1
  • By unlocking new parts on the Tech Tree and building Robots with them, players will be able to progress through the Tiers from T1 to T5
  • Each Tier will have an XP bonus; with the higher Tiers providing more XP than lower Tiers
  • Players will need to design Robots that are optimal for each Tier by paying careful attention to the Robot Ranking
  • The Tier of any Robots in your Garage and those on the CRF will be clearly displayed in their thumbnail image
  • We will also add a Tier filter to the CRF to make it easier to find Robots for a given Tier
  • All players in a Party will need to ensure their Robots are the same Tier before entering a battle
  • The Party widget and UI will clearly display what Tier each Party member is in and we will message this so that players understand this is the case
  • The Battle Loading Screen will be updated to show the Tier of every Robot in battle so that users can see that the game is fairly match-made by Tier

I bolded the features that seems most important to know.

So there will be a T-M and the Laser Leviathan will be renamed to a T5 laser. We can conclude from this that there will be weapons greater than the greatest. What are your thoughts on this?

Since matchmaking will pair bots of similar tiers, I assume there could possibly be a full megabot party match. If there are enough players queuing with megabots for that game mode.

XP bonus depending on tiers. Nothing to discuss really, we are all getting enough XP and will get tier bonus besides party bonus, league bonus and premium bonus.

Tier Rank Progression

"Unlike the previous Tier system, the new Tiers will also have a Rank progression system similar to current League but there will be one for each Tier"

To summarise this, you can gain MMR for each tier of bot rarity. T1 bots fighting among T1 bots for MMR, no mix of T1 vs T5. Each bot tier MMR progress will be displayed on a tier progression screen after battle. Once you go up a league in any bot tier you will lock in to that league despite losing MMR. Just keep gaining MMR to lock in the next league without worry of going down a league.

Multiple Game Modes, One Button

In order to allow for Tiers to come back we "are moving Battle Arena and Team Deathmatch to a single ‘Battle’ button"

We will also be bringing back Elimination permanently (this will be 8 vs. 8)
When players queue for battle, a game mode will be chosen at random, so you will get a different mode and/or map each time you enter battle

This system has been designed for a number of benefits:

  • More players in the same queue that will allow us to matchmake fairly by Tier
  • Keep the queue times down
It allows us to add more game mode variants in future
  • There will be a settings option for game modes that allow you to ‘opt out’ of game modes you do not like. Please note that opting out of some game modes may result in longer queue times; so it will be down to player preference.

Ah Elimination. Freejam gave us the brawl for it in the meantime. I'm grateful for that. Blowing people up with my mortar :3

Opting out? Is this like leaving a game without penalties?

This disturbing side note at the bottom of the Tiers dev jam.

*Since some weapons like Lasers have more than 5 sizes, we will be making some of the less distinct sizes obsolete to keep things clean and have just 1 per Tier max. For example the Laser Hornet will be deprecated and any Hornets on Robots will be replaced with Wasps so they remain semi-intact

So this is implying that tiers with more than one variant will be reverted to the smaller variant? My bot with Rail Decimators will have Rail Penetrators? I kind of like the Decimator's energy consumption and damage. Too bad then.

Taking this fact into account, we will need to rebuild many of our chassis'. I even took the step to only use the smaller variant of a tier, in preparation for this update. You should too. You wouldn't want your mech to suddenly get smaller legs.

Assuming larger variants of each tier being removed, have any of you noticed that drones use the larger variants of thrusters in each tier? Panther, Puma. Drones will become severely disrupted soon. Some thrusters will shrink and boosts will be removed hopefully.

Robocraft is nearing a great change, whether it's for better or worse all we can do is be patient. Do not let abrupt changes hinder your improvement, just adapt to it.

The 3 aspects of this game is build, drive, fight. It depends a lot on how you do as an engineer, pilot and gunner. A time will come when Robocraft will be truly entertaining. If you are serious about enjoying this game, have no complaints. We see bad changes in games all the time, so be it. Look to the future and build it.

Feel free to bring up a topic related to the update features above. Discuss among each other without arguing. Share any info you have obtained from RC Forums. There's a lot to wonder about the future changes of the engineering mechanics and gameplay of Robocraft. Just discuss it now.

When the infinity update comes out I'll stop playing definitely because the game is changing from "Play to get better parts and have progression" to "Play to have everything for free"

Lol 1/2 the community complains the game is too hard, the other 1/2 complains its too easy.

@op Pretty sure the current update is a 1st step to adding this stuff & the cube/rod update was something they had ready to tide us over. Just my opinion though

I didn't say it's easy I wanted to say games like this must have some progression system because then it's like... like... Minecraft without mining because you already have full chests of everything so there is nothing to holding you there

Soooo, getting tech points to complete the tree isn't progressing? Besides any game played as long as you have would be at least mostly complete. Do you expect it to go on forever?

Please do read about Tier Rank Progression. I finished typing in all the update info. We'll have tier progression for each tier in League Arena. As A T1, As a T2 etc have their own individual progression to protonium league.

Robot Ranking shows your robot tier progress as you build it to better optimize it for a tier. Robocraft has a wide array of movement parts too. There are many bot types to build and even hybrids. All of what you build will soon have robot ranking to show your tier optimization progress.

The tech tree is already a great progression system. Whether it becomes infinite or not, it does not matter. What needs to be progressed in Robocraft is not parts that we grind for. It's all the types of robots we build and improve. Not sticking just to a single playstyle of movement parts.

Aside from building, there is also room for improving piloting of all the robot types. Don't forget how well one can aim using each robot type. If freejam added a statistics feature to show the improvement of your building skill, piloting and accuracy will you still need more of a progression system?

I do want some achievement badges to be added for weapon accuracy statistics. It's nice if there are badges you can unlock, display on your robot and profile after fulfilling a long term achievement. This is all we have right now in Robocraft but I find it satisfying enough to improve on building different robots and I take that as my progression.

So far they’ve had kept their promise and deliver them (added a few unnecesary extras). The only thing that’s really a big change they promised is the physics changes that will really make or break the game.

I can finally immerse myself in building and designing thanks to the infinity update later. Oh god yes.

Ah this vid.
Freejam: we specify the weeks it will take for the next update on our dev jam but it's a just a bluff. Instead we work on stuff the community didn't ask for again ahihihiii hii hi.

I'm not trying to badmouth them but it's pretty accurate.

When updates have issues the community throws tantrums. Did you ever consider that the small dev team is hzving a hard time making it work properly and is giving us something in between that they did have ready?

& yes, the community has been asking for more rods & cubes for a long time. Parts of the unified login may be laying groundwork for infinity.

I agree, I guess RC has finally become Mark's vision of a 'lego sandbox' :/
It just removes a another component of the game that I enjoy (leveling up from 0 to tier 10 used to be a lot of fun imo

Relax man, I was parodying the video. I didn't mean any of that. Overall Robocraft is a great game. As long as I can keep building I got no problems with the game.

I won't even start Remove [Insert here] or Nerf [Insert here] arguments. Ever since the unified login, I can tell how much they're struggling with the number of update fixes.

They can work as long as they like with the groundwork, they do fix things quickly when needed to and everything is fine up till now.

There is one bug since the unified login updates. I can't remove my crf uploads, the remove bot button became the "get" button like for crf uploads of other bots. Even the report bot button is available for personal crf uploads.

I can report my own bot uploads... Do I have to write this to their game support or have there been people who experienced the same bug and have already written bug reports of this? I reached my upload limit and can't upload unless I remove an old bot, which I need the missing remove button for..

Read through the forum, even the added features that players like fj almost never gets credit & an update that is not well received they get rants, threats & blatant toxicity (rather than valid feedback). I wonder how long they are willing to take the abuse.

Yes, they do know about the crf bug & I have heard it will be fixed soon. I wouldn't report your own bots as I'm pretty sure it ties up tech support time.

Iirc RC is a 10+ game right? It makes me wonder if the main source of all these rants are immature and pessimistic kids. Like flying straight into aeroflak, calling allies noobs with the lowest score on team, the bot with no situational awareness, etc

It's a robot building game, the bots built can be optimised to do certain tasks. The community complains drones are a problem, just classifying it as unbeatable despite the fact that most drone users actually suck at dodging and using cover.

Besides that, some say nerf aeroflak. It's OP and broken they say. Don't they realise they just suck at flying behind cover. If they wanted to compete against aeroflak, a high tier plane should always carry a blink module. A part of the community just keeps blaming the game for their own lack of ingenuity.

I really appreciate all the updates the devs are doing. They have been giving what's asked for. It's small but did anyone notice that improved crosshairs and weapon feedback is actually in the tiers update list? They've managed to add it early but I see so many ungrateful comments in the weapon feedback post.

The single player campaign looks fun and they mentioned phase 3 on the recent post. Hopefully it will calm the community for now. What is actually bothering the community right now? Drones and metabots?

Yes, 10+ game. Unfortunately because of that those immature rants are complaints from valid customers. Whether its me spending my hard earned money or a 10yo spending off a steam gift card it is still income to fj & listening to the community means listening to the whole community. Its hard for fj but they have to consider all feedback. Thats why additions are often close but not exactly what is asked for.

Imo thats a very good observation although they are partially right, drones are a bit too good at what they do (in certain situations).

Yup & its likely how many aspects will come. Some small & some big chunks. Many seemed to notice & there is a fair amount that do not like the new crosshairs and weapon feedback. It was awesome of fj to give us a way to turn it off (best of both worlds).

The single player campaign looks fun and they mentioned phase 3 on the recent post. Hopefully it will calm the community for now. What is actually bothering the community right now? Drones and metabots?
Drones and metabots seem to always bother the community. The sp campaign looks cool imo but I have already seen complaints about it. I guess you can't win them all & hope fj keeps trying. I will admit, this game requires a bit of patience but if you can handle that its a great game with a lot of potential. Personally, the 5v11111 matching has turned me off a bit & feel that since the 5 are the ones complaining of q time they have a responsibility to be good sports about it & if you play 5 man meta you should take it to league. Most of the drone/meta complaints I have seen turn out to be parties & not just the bots in question. Sure, drones & those levi/ion hovers are strong but so is teamwork & together strengths are augmented.

Fj is a small dev team & can't react & do as much as a large studio. As part of a community we can help to pick up slack (keeping non league creative & casual, making guids, tutorials, groups to help new players learn, give constructive criticism). Or we can troll, downvote while not understanding the game, bash & complain, trashtalk devs, uninstall & generally be toxic.

Tbh, I have 2 big issues with the game. 5v11111 mm & the community. I mildly understand the mm, its not fair but full party q times are a bit too long without it. Imo, the community is part of the problem. They don't band together as crafters. Often joining up with randoms means getting trolled or waiting forever for them to finish arguing with their mom about homework. Being good often grants you hate rather than respect. Immediately blaming your team rather than using chat/ping to encourage smart play. Leaving if its not a sure thing. Blatant ignorance of the game & supporting media. But then again, its a 10+ game......

Thanks fof a normal conversation, sorry for the rant. I can't say I agree or disagree with you but it seems you understand the devs have a fullrr plate than many make it out to be. I quit long ago but came back with an open mind. I take short breaks when frustrated but could never stay away.

Ok, I forgot what my point was......

Trisapiensaurus Sep 22, 2018 @ 9:42pm
And now they are talking about some crazy campaign crap, where are tiers? Why is the development path so schizophrenic.
