Yu-Gi-Oh! EARLY DAYS COLLECTION

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters 6: Expert 2 to be released in Japanese language.
You are joking right? WWE isn't exactly the same game and it was a watered down version through and through. What's even the point of an international release with not translation?! Classic Konami L.

Was this specific title ever localized?

Nope. WWE was a re-release of it but it had less cards and was censored even in Japan.

Then why would they localize it now? That would be too much work.

Huh? You do know three GB games are being localized now for the first time right? Not only is that much more work than localizing this game, but they can literally just port the WWE translation to DM6, is literally that much easier.

Which ones? It'll be definitely very much welcome, but I don't see any mention of it on the storepage.

Only one of the GB games was ever translated in the past. As you can see none of them have the *is in Japanese* disclaimer in the description and it was confirmed when this collection was announced that they would get localized for the first time but they conveniently kept quite about DM6 not getting a translation until recently.

Interesting. That's definitely nice, but my suspicion is that the translation might've been done way back for an eventual international release and was just never used. It happened to quite a few games actually. In the Nintendo Giga Leak a few years ago, there were quite a few old games uncovered that were fully localized into english and just weren't released. That would explain why these Yu-Gi-Oh! games are suddenly localized.

Even if that were the case. They already have a DM6 translation in WWE, so they could easily use that to localized it properly.

Digital Eclipse probably just handles the tech side of getting the emulation right and doesn't touch the existing game code at all. It just is what it is. But if it really is easy, it's in the realm of possibility that fans either have already created a fan translation of that particular game or will do it.

No chance Monster Capsule was ever being considered for localization back in the day. That is definitely a new translation.

You'd be surprised. Translations aren't that expensive compared to bringing a game out physically, especially back in the day. As I said, there were times, probably more than we might think, that companies just sat on completed translations and never released them.

Nintendo fully developed and localized Star Fox 2 in 1995, but skipped the release and only released it in 2017 as one of the games on the SNES Mini. Another game they fully localized was Mother in 1991, but released it only in 2015 on the Wii U as EarthBound Beginnings.

I'm not saying a new official translation is impossible, I just personally think it's unlikely. In fact, I'd be very happy if more obscure oldschool games were official localized and released for the first time.

A game based on the early volumes of the manga/Toei anime series never would've been greenlit for the west. There's no synergy with the anime by Gallop, which would be seen as a must for the western market. It's also unlikely that both Duel Monsters 1 and 2 would be fully translated before settling on 3 as the one to release. At best, maybe 4 was translated back in the day and then dropped in favor of a GBA game, but the idea every Japanese-exclusive Game Boy game had unreleased translation is the real unlikely option.

There were always some oddball cases of certain games brought to the west without any tie-in media. Sadly, the only example that I remember off the top of my head is "Ranma ½: Hard Battle" for the SNES, which was released in 1993 just as the anime started releasing with an English dub on VHS.

It's just my own personal suspicion that the translations were already finished long ago because there's no official note in regards to it with this release.
