Tips, Techniques, and Tricks thread
I wanted to make this thread as a place to share some of the techniques we've learned for this game that new or even experienced players may have missed. This could include simple or relatively advanced techniques. For some, like myself, a lot of the fun of the game is discovering these things yourself, so consider this 'spoiler' territory.

OK: here's two screenshots that exhibit 4 little tricks to start off.

1. You can place objects, like welders and eviscerators, onto the end of pushers. Edit: They won't work if they're stuck to anything, even the floor. To be clear, though, you can have a single pusher pushing a massive bank of blocks, welders, etc- what's important is that everything that's joined together is not glued to something that is itself attached to part of the terrain. To make these things work on the floor, use hint #3 (thanks dunbaratu!) .

2. Use a simple conveyor belt to activate switches in a regular and predictable manner. To have that block moving around freely, you need tip 3:

3. Placing objects midair 'unsticks' them when they land. Before I knew this, there were all sorts of solutions I didn't think were possible.

4. You can make super extendy arms by placing pipes in the middle of the air as shown.

You can even combine (kinda) both tips and have a free floating inverted conveyor that moves blocks lifted by the same lifter that keeps it afloat.

9. Lifters still raise blocks even if you've laid something like a conveyor over them. I saw this from one of PsyBlade's solutions. Previously, I had always been a little constrained because I would always keep open space in the area I wanted my lifter to operate. Knowing that you can run things over it allows more flexibility.

I find that feature annoying because I first discovered it when I *wanted* it to be blockable. I was hoping to be able to push a plunger block in the way of a blower to block its effect. I find this feature detrimental more often than it's useful.
There's a perverse part of me that wants to try making a binary adder or counter mechanism out of the logic gates.

I feel very much at the elementary level when it comes to the types of circuits one can make in this game. I hope you know I looked at your video several times and found it very helpful. The 'both' circuit was great, and I used it several times in the final few maps. The flip-flop circuit is less useful once you have the counter block, but it would have been invaluable had I known about it in some of the earlier maps.
A couple more tips:

- Welders can me moved into position and will automatically connect with other welders making it much easier to get tricky parts that need to be welded into position first and/or then move the completed part out afterwards.

- Rotating always takes 1 cycle, reguardless of how large the object being rotated is. This allows you to save a heap of time moving something large around, if your object is 10 blocks long then with the right setup you can move it diagonally 10 blocks along the X axis and another 10 along the Z axis (assuming Z is vertical) in just 2 cycles using two rotators.

Both of these tips really helped in my solution to the Nav computer puzzle: http://i.imgur.com/8J0m1l1.gif

you can place a conveyor and an upside down conveyor on top of each other (make sure they're both unglued) and that they're both facing the same direction, if done correctly you will have a self-propelling conveyor

I wonder: could you attach something to the top of that upside down coveyer and move it too?
It does, but only if the block is glued to the upside down conveyor, I haven't tried it with the block attached to the bottom so I have no clue how that would work out, however I don't think that your idea would work, because the upside down conveyor reverses when the right side up conveyor hits a wall. For frame of reference I haven't tried gluing the block to the conveyor side (which I don't think works anyway) I f the block isn't glued it doesn't move and only gets stopped for a half second before falling down, I f it intercepts the top conveyor it just moves it out of alignment with the bottom conveyor.
OK, I've done some experimentation and it turns out that it will still self-propel if there is a block glued underneath it, if an unglued block is placed in front of it it will push the block, if a glued block is places in front of it the upside-down block will get off the top block and reverse until it hits a glued block, if block is placed in front of the upside-down conveyor the same thing will happen as though it hit a wall (for this it doesn't matter if it's glued or unglued) I did repeat myself but only for the sake of clarity.
Just curious, are we including glitches in this (for instance pushing yourself through the wall so that you clip through it)

Edit: also are specific designs allowed (ex: something that moves an object after its rotated without having to be pushed from behind)

Is this thread dead?

Still kicking!

To answer your question: my original intent of the thread was a place for players to learn techniques to help them solve puzzles in the game. So, glitches and bugs weren't originally part of that. In terms of 'allowed', well, allowed by who? The reddit community records high scores for the game, and glitches/bugs get their own seperate category.

However, I don't see why you can't post any glitches you've found here.
Hey everyone, I found what I consider to be a pretty massive exploit in the puzzle. I describe how I broke it in unbeatable level. anyways I found something even worse, a level can be beaten, and then you can remove the privilege to place the block that made the level beatable. I wanted to bring this to people's attention so that y'all may do what you wish with this knowledge.

edit: turned impossible into unbeatable

Thanks! Any chance of a picture of that?
I may record something and throw it on youtube. I can't use the game's GIF-maker because it doesn't work on the experimentals screen.
You can easily turn any recording into a gif. You don't need a game feature for that, and you don't even need to download/instal any program for it.
what's the best way to split uneven amounts of blocks, like send 3 blocks on one path and 2 on another?
