Starting equipment nonsense
How hard would it have been to have increased the equipment options at start to inject a bit of choice there?

Currently I keep trying and failing to roll a decker/rigger who actually starts with a deck and a drone, which is driving me nuts. I can't find any equipment guides for dragonfall out there so I don't know if that's even possible.

Any help on this would be appreciated, like how to start with a cyberdeck + something besides a medkit (drone, spell, etc).

Yea, i had the same problem...it is unfortunately not explained how/what equipment you start with. I have tried a multiple of different possibilities and so far i have not been able to get a drone plus cyberdeck from start..it is one or the other depending on which skill is highest.

You won't need a deck for the first mission, so go with the drone.

If you want to spend a point of karma to get nuyen later, toss one point into chi casting, and you'll get killing hands, then sell it when you get home.

It really doesn't matter, you'll be able to get what you need.

Uh with my 1250 cash, I can get either a deck or a drone plus one spell. Forget about ESP and programs, that's like another 4k to get to a basic starting condition. Oh and my decker char doesn't start with ANY programs unless I pick the pre-rolled decker package.

Worst start setup in a game. Is there a good modding tool for it?

The first few missions you don´t really need that much ekstra equipment...and you can always use the free decker in the beginning if you really need it. If you buy a deck in the beginning you can get one for 350...but I would advice waiting until you have the money for the next deck - think you need 5 in decking? As start rigger (if rigger skill is higher than decking) you get the first basic drone which will work fine for a few missions. If I were you I would not buy any ekstra equipment until at least after the second mission...maybe a spell or two and that is that. You will find some new equipment that you might want to keep or sell in the second mission.

What I MEANT was, like most RPGs, you'll spend probably 5% of the game with your starting equipment. Who cares?

Yeah, just start a Rigger and then add decker after the first mission. Monika is the decker till her demise and you won't need decker after that. The second mission, you could use a decker. Then you pick up Blitz, who is a Decker(great), Rigger(lousy at it), uses SMG.

Honestly, as a Hybrid Mage/Decker/Charisma/Biotech character ... ESPs are a complete waste , provided you choose solid Programs/Cyberdecks. I personally ran with the second Cyberdeck and Shield, Heal, Aim, AoE damage and Poison programs. Then just normally shot at ICE most times unless my Hit% was low, then I threw out the AoE blast. This was on Hard.

Also, you won't really need a Drone for the first few missions anyway as long as you are bringing you teammates and playing smart. Hell my character was Dead Weight for majority of the game until he got Armor II and Fireball II. Then you figure on other missions you're too busy in the Matrix decking to contribute anything anyway.

Overall, don't make such a big deal out of it. You're overthinking it a bit. Does it suck? Yeah but you are starting the game with next to nothing anyway. It forces you to make hard choices during the first ~25% of the game due to equipment problems. IMO, I like it and feel that's a great thing since many modern RPGs don't do this. Often times you go to the store and buy "the best thing" you can at the time, do 2 missions then buy the next newest thing.

With Dragonfall you are forced in either saving your money or constanly spending it for minor upgrades. You need to spend money on a Cyberdeck straight away. Personally I went with the second one because it gave 3 AP, which is huge in the Matrix. I kept it for quite awhile until I upgraded to the second best Cyberdeck. Unfortunately for me Spells made me waste quite a bit simply because I didn't know what was "good" and what sucked. I'd imagine it's the same thing with Drones. You are probably better off not buying a Drone despite being a Rigger until you can buy the third or fourth line Drone. What I hate is how screwed true Hybrid characters are, equipment wise for the first ~50-70% of the game. My current PC uses Spells, Shotguns, Decks and eventually Drones. Even knowing what Spells I want I don't have enough money to get solid Spells, a Shotgun, Deck and Armor. I'm forced to used the POS Shotgun and Armor just so I have a couple fo Spells and Cyberdeck lol.
