Even having watched all the DVDs, passing the intelligence and biotech checks, and doing the brother dialogue last, I couldn't talk down Vauclair.
- I can't remember the details, but there are three skill checks you can make that each grant a point. The first needs Biotech 5, the second needs Intelligence 6, and the last one needs the Academic Etiquette.
- Reading the logs found in one of the computers in the manor describes several lab accidents that occured while developing the plan, and you can call him out on his lax safety measures (you need a Decker to unlock the computer.)
- If you've done all of Absinthe's (the assistant at the Magic Shop) conversations she tells you about the Horrors, which you can then tell Vauclair about.
- If you've watched all the DVDs you can tell him this isn't what his brother would've wanted (90% sure that in order to get the "point" from this it has to be the last argument you use.)
You seem to need about 3 "points" to talk him down. Basically don't resort to personal insults and calmly point out all of the holes in his plan.
sure, its one of the most epic and brilliantly written dialouges i have ever read but you still have to fight everyone in the end with no real relief...
