What's the point of the Hand-Forged Katana?

Seems like it unlocks at the same time as the Axe.
The axe is cheaper and does more damage.
So... what's the point of the Hand-Forged Katana?

Ah, wait, never mind. The Hand-forged Katana can do AP damage on a crit. The Axe can't.

actually in dragonfall it does ap damage on every attack and -2 on crits. very useful
