Swords offer more multi-hit attacks, (especially for adapts) though, something that can do a lot of difference if you pump the crit chance. They far more often cause AP damage as well, quite often stuning enemies.
Honestly, the only real con to both of them is the melee range and how much damage that opens you up to. Otherwise they're impressivly balances options.
You might want to at least dip a bit into throwing. The daggers and shurikens count as a ranged melee attack, and scale in damage and reach on your strenght stat.
So, well worth a few dots of karma for the flexability. Like all melee attacks they 'push' enemies out of cover as well; one of the few ranged ways of doing that.
Honestly not sure, but I wouldn't worry about it that much since it's a secondary back-up skill.
That pinnig strike skill or whatever the name is, is a really solid point to aim for, at least. Really usefull if you manage to get it to. heh. stick on somebody out in the open.
Generally, unarmed seems to be best for a combat adept, and weapons work best for a melee Sam, with augmented strength.
