Can you have a dual class Mage/Shaman?
A friend of mine keeps trying to make one but he never gets both default spells or weapons no matter what he does. Is it possible?

You can custom build one but equal investment in both classes means it won't be super good at either. For hard or very hard I'd either do shaman + bit of mage (e.g., healing, aim, armor or strip armor) or mage with bit of shaman (barrier, haste, likely no summoning at all) and wouldn't invest in weapon trees for either case because they can equip certain spells as weapons. Played it through with both builds actually.

A jack of all trades is a master of none

Dual Classing in Shadowrun isn't exactly recommended. It's *possible*, although I would suggest speccing towards a second class about 12+ hours in. Doing so early on, as your friend is trying, will cripple your character and potentially ruin a playthrough. Srsly.
You'll never get both default spells because, well, you only pick one class at the start. THAT dictates your gear, but it IS possible to get both default spells by buying the second one.

If you get more comfortable with the mechanics and know what works and what doesn't you can actually dual or even triple-class and still be very usefull for your team. I have completed all shadowrun games with hybrid characters on hard, sometimes with points spent in nearly every category. I like to have a lot of dialogue options and love to play jack of all trades. But you should know how the game works and you have to exploit all game mechanics, use cover, overwatch, buffs, grenades etc.
I personally think pure class builds are pretty boring...but thats just my opinion man.

If Dietrich can do it, so can you.

If you check carefully most team member builds actually break rules here and there. Shouldn't matter they're probably just "special" :)

And in addition to that, your team (most of the time) consists of 4 people, so even if your main charactert sucks and fighting and can only deck and talk fancy (i play a lot with characters like that) its still doable.
