[Question- ANSWERED] Initial Fight with Minigun Orc
Ok, playing normal difficulty.

Rolled an elf hacker (leading to the first mission being a bit silly, since the lead is level 2000 compared to you).

First floor, fine - but rough. Second floor - totally creamed, repeatedly. I understand the basis of the fight (i.e. run or die, survive 10 turns) but it's incredibly tough.

Is this a known issue or am I just missing something important?

You get the fight basics? Cover and such?

Summon elemental with the shaman. stay at the door thatt'll open and be your exit.
Wait while letting the elemental loose and taking aggro.

Win.

I re-rolled a custom char (using pistol / drone / charisma) and it went much more smoothly.

My first char had 0 combat skills, probably the problem.

Ty for replies.

if you played SR:R, dont take SR:DF the same way. Dragonfall is much harder. I'm still at the point where my chars only have 2 AP, and i have ennemies with 3 AP that can do 40+ damage or an infinite 10 damage dot with like a 100% chance of success.

Nonetheless, it's harder than SR:R by a VERY VERY large margin, to the point where you are like "wtf".

Giving up or not is up to you, the strong story of the game is its good part, but the combat are even worse than XCOM if you ask me.

you do realize that you aren't supposed to be able to win the first mission right? you basically just have to flee.

if it makes you feel better i TOTALLY screwed up my character in my first run through. i put points everywhere! however, it was fun in that i was almost always able to pass skillchecks lol... i just couldn't hit crap because my character was a melee build and i never put any points into close combat!!

i even blew 5k to get the encephalon next just so my hulking brute of a troll could pass INT checks lol

Let your guys hide behind the main pc desk which gives full cover and shoot at everything else (concentrating on 1 enemy at the time, leave the large orc for last), and use magic heal on anyone who has been hit by the minigun so it will be like they never got hit (about 20HP I think).

I play it on "normal" so it is a pretty easy fight, and I am not really goot with RPG numbers (like people ehre can give you all these crazy math on how to deal ltos of damage), I only go with whatI think it's strategically good. Once the orc reaches half health it shoudl run away, so you may proceede to the escape door.

I had a decker/rigger (without a drone) on that, and I basically just dove for cover and left it at that. If you stay in cover and use your heals, you should be ok. A few things that may help:

- As a decker, you have "Target Enemy" in your implants menu. This can help make an enemy easier to hit for the rest of the crew (which helps because you have crap weapon skills probably).

- Glory has an implanted device that gives her extra AP for a few rounds. That can help, even if she's just plinking at folks with a pistol.

- Don't use the sniper rifle in close with Eiger. Switch to her shotgun to check the % to hit.

- In addition to the heal spell, Dietrich has a spell that lets him reduce incoming damage. Also his electro bolt thing will reduce enemy AP, which can help a bunch.

- Ignore the orc. Kill the no-name goons. None of your weapons will scratch the orc, but you can take out a couple of the goons if you focus fire on them.

that's wrong, if you hurt him at mid life, he will retreat.

What difficulty are you playing at, and what does your stats look like? I'm assuming you didn't put everything into Decking?

Also might want to be more specific with what's going wrong. Here's how I would approach the second fight. First of all, Engage the enemies as they come in and kill as many as you can. When the orc shows up, have Dietrich summon the spirit in the room to distract him. continue killing guys.

If you're doing well, and most of the enemies are dead, you can even go engage the orc. If you get him below half health, he will run away. Otherwise, make your stand close to the exit and make sure you have cover between you and the orc. Once the door opens, leave the room and forget about anyone who's left. I think there are couple enemies and a drone in the exit, deal with them and then just run.

Also: don't be mistaken, this is not one of those "fight you can't win" scenarios. The enemies are actually very killable, but the orc flees before you can finish him off, and the troops keep coming. Treat it as a normal fight, until the exit opens, and then just leave.

Yeah, to be clear, the goal here is to hold out and then escape. It's not a "fight you can't win" in the sense that you can't escape. It's a "fight you can't win" in the sense that you can't kill everyone there and then go loot stuff.

In my experience, focusing on him would mean shifting focus away from the other more killable enemies, without gaining a ton. I find you're better off limiting incoming damage by killing as many other enemies as possible.

You can literally win that fight even on very hard (did it with mage). Eventually enemies stop coming and you can waltz out. Orc always escapes. Not easy though. On hard it was pretty straightforward however (had street sam with shotty). Only had difficulty with shaman build on hard.

It helps if you realise that Mr Minigun only has 2 AP and needs 2 AP to use his minigun.
Basically, if he moves, he can't shoot. So just keep out of his line of sight.

Spread your team enough so that he can't LOS all of them at the same time, then those in his LOS move while the rest who don't need to move can focus fire the other enemies.

Don't forget to use items that your team mates bring along. Glory's medkits, Diet's totems. (I always forget his totems.) And the env summoning point.
