I don't like having scripted events in a mission which incapacitate a character (especially when it's the only character who was doing anything), and it seems like some classes and builds are way, way better than others. Sure, I'm going to throw a knife that has a range of around 10 feet as opposed to using an automatic rifle. I'm going to spend a bunch of my karma on a summoning skill that only works in select places and is extremely weak when you can use it.
I get that balance is hard to achieve in a game like this and I understand it is story-based but I had hoped for more valid strategic options as to your build, more of an open world feel, and tactical combat which is procedurally generated and has no scripted stuff. I wouldn't say the tactical combat is 'boring', but it is on rails. You don't really have too many positioning options as compared to something like XCom because you know where your enemies are going to come from, your summoning locations are static, characters aren't that flexible, and there are obviously optimal positions to take when you fight.
It is what it is. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
But we all love what we love, right? What you find boring a whole lot of other people find entertaining.
I'll never understand your logic, or people like you, who feel the need to talk down on something that they don't personally enjoy
anyway I'm done with you, move along kid
What I find tedious is every mission enemies come, you start killing them and they are kicking your butt. You heal and fight. You think you're almost done, then more come. And again. And again. You have 3-4 people? You cannot hit to broad-side of a barn. They will easily have at least 3-4 times as many, sometimes random other monsters, too, or your summoned spirit suddenly turns against everyone. THAT I find boring. In this one, there are not enough benefits to jacking into the Matrix. You would think that in the hotel, I could hack the keypads or jack-in and access the locks to certain doors. I'm kind of regretting playing a decker. :-( We'll see how it goes.
Over-all, I love the concept and character choices that are available. I like the karma system. I don't care what it's called. I don't mind reading at all. The battle aspect sucks, though. I don't care how brain-dead you are or untrained, if you pick-up a firearm and shoot someone within 50 m, you will hit them. I'm ex-military, so I find it utterly annoying to be shooting at someone at anything other than very long range and constantly not hitting them. As a 5 year old child, I could hit the trees with a pistol. The kickback was a female dog to be sure. Bwahahaha!!! I pay attention to the s-m-l range settings they have chosen for the game, but .... Also, the people you are working with are supposed to be seasoned, but they hadn't even attained level 2 when you get command of the group.
I do hope you find something that's more to your taste. I find the need to think-up a story-line tedious, and they are usually the same junk over and over again anyhow, just slightly changed. Books and movies have become tedious to me, as have games that pretend to have a deep plot. At a certain point in your life, you have experienced the base plots over and over and over again. There are very few new and interesting twists, so you're there for something else - a cute actor, a fun setting, an unusual character that you enjoy playing.
Cheers!
As for not hitting things, well it's tactical combat, it's based on rng (random generator, not distance). You can hit someone almost out of line of sight with a pistol. Or miss someone pretty close with rifle. And unless you play on hard, % to hit is quite lenient.
