Help with ranged build [First Time Player]
I aim to make a straighforward shooter that can talk their way out of situations.

To try the game, I made an Orc with points in Shotgun, Dodge, and Biotech and Security Etiquette. I really like the game's combat.
I've only finished the first section.

Any suggestions on how to build this character further? Also should I try making a new character or stick to current one?

Go for rifle proficiency, it's as straight forward as it can get.

Ok, should I diversify with Rifle + Shotgun?

Also, how do I improve my character's conversation skills?

Shadowrun is one of those systems where its generally better to be a specialist then a generalist. Unless you're super far into the game, I'd suggest a quick restart. Either that, or sticking with shot guns. They're perfectly valid choices, just not as flexible as Rifles.

And you get more etiquettes by leveling Charisma. One of the exceptions of worth at least dipping into a bit, since only the Main Character is allowed to use etiquettes in dialogue.

Keep in mind, as far as dialogue choices, Charisma only really helps on the even levels when you get to choose Etiquette. If you're trying to talk your way in and out of missions without things resorting to violence then Corporate, Security and Gangs are usually good choices. Each game varies by which ones are most common, so I'll let you research that if you want to.

All ranged weapons are perfectly viable, but Rifles are just overpowered. The 'Full Auto' special attack is game breaking, and Rifle spec also translates to Sniper Rifles, giving you lots of versatility for relatively little Karma.

Also, Biotech is an excellent skill to take. It's just handy. Though, a nice trick, your NPC allies refresh their consumables (Eiger's grenades, Glory's medkits, etc) every mission for free, so feel free to use them!

Understood. I've taken Security only, I'll wait and see if I should put point in Charisma later on.

Feeling like I should restart the game and take spec in rifles..

This is a valuable information.

Thanks!
