I get why some lose patience, though. And in the same vein, why the more straightforward 'how do we stop this calamity?' style story of Dragonfall appeal more to others.
Still, yeah, Hong Kong is easily my favorite, but Dragonfall is good too. Just a different type of good.
Edit* Forgot the last line.
yeah hk didnt let me choose ending i wanted even though i shouldve been able to... never bothered to replay it afterwards :/ dfall i did 4-5 times.
Whereas Dragonfall has good Matrix gameplay.
Other than that, they are pretty much the same thing.
Eh...
Personally preferred the HK Matrix since it actually takes some skill and patience instead of just being this constant, less interesting combat slog... but I get that they're 'love or hate' type stuff.
DF has a better atmosphere & story while also keeping it pointed HK appears to try very hard to stick to it, but sadly confuses quantity (of texts & story) with quality imo. It's still a good plot & atmosphere, but DF wasn't just good - it was outstanding.
HK on the other hand adds quite some good balancing tweaks (also a few questionable balancing changes tbh) and offers more diverse gameplay challenges (specifically more diverse enemies, not least melee opponents). The new character options (like cyberweapons) are also pretty nice.
The shortage of money in HK is generally seen as a negative in my impression, but personally I really liked it. Makes your decisions all the more meaningful ;)
While the bonus campaign does not quite live up to the high quality plots of DF & HK it is still another advantage for HK, allowing to play a bit longer in "late game" as well as it allows finishing expensive builds (both karma & money wise).
DF has a very good (if asymmetrical) balancing between (most) "character classes", whereas HK seems more tricky in that regard. That's despite the better balance between individual items (due to the limited funds early and the focus on late game with the bonus campaign). Might be me, since I played DF a lot more - perhaps I just know how to play a wider array of builds in DF due to that.
