game-breaking bug in APEX mission
So, after clocking up a load of hours - I get to the APEX mission and encounter the game-breaking bug where everything freezes and there's no way forward.

you cannot save, you cannnot carry on. I re-did the mission twice, same bug.

Googled it, checked these forums - and this is apparently a pretty common bug. Really quite annoying to get 30+ hours into a game that then cannot be completed. even using the console and trying to cheat past the level, it still freezes.

uninstall. :/

It's been well-known for two years now, but since the devs already have our money and know that by the time a player reaches this point they won't be able to get a refund due to Steam's pathetic refund policy, they figure there's no need to bother fixing it. Their sticky thread has a very flimsy excuse of "hurrr durr it complex" and yet there are games which are significantly more complex with all sorts of things going on at once...and they never have these issues. Truth is, the devs obviously don't care about the fans and clearly can't be bothered sorting this out. If Steam had a better refund policy (50 hours, 5 weeks at the very least) then that would've galvanised them into actually fixing the bug much much sooner, cause people would've just refunded it and thus they would've lost their (our) money.

It's sad that I won't be able to see the conclusion of the story or the characters who I've grown fond of, but alas - greed ruins many things.

TL;DR if the devs cared at all about the fans (or were forced to care thanks to a more sensible refund policy), then this would've been sorted two years ago.

i recall several old threads with suggestions for what might help finish apex rising mission when bug's triggered. dont remember any specifics but i'd check in those. one recommendation was not to use quicksave iirc.

The first pinned topic is about this same bug. But yes, I'm giving it one last chance and then uninstalling too.

I was able to finish apex rising one or two nights ago and finished the game today. I did what the sticky suggested of doing the mission in one sitting and not saving at any point.

It was a long mission though, and having to do it without saving during the run isn't ideal but maybe if you've not tired that, you could see if it fixes your issue.

This bug really should've been fixed years ago or some sort of workaround patched in by now.

agreed. though tbh if it's not their engine sometimes fix means finding workarounds for rare undocumented engine bugs which can suck big time :/ ofc if it's their own engine buck stops squarely with them. i hit apex bug once in 4+ playthroughs and there were glitches in mission at least 2 other times. my impression it's combination of race condition in ui (eg cant target or move in matrix) and some memory bug (when saves dont complete with 'game saved' message).

those commenting about "not saving" i tried doing the mission without saving. Tried killing APEX and freeing it. Still crashed and hung at the same place, regardless.

If it freezes at the same point for everyone as it did for me, it would be easy to fix even without knowing what's causing it. Just teleport the team back home from the dialogue screen instead of making you walk out of the door. That would skip the point where the game freezes.

that'd definitely help for many but not everyone. only time i got game breaking bug on apex mission game simply hang during enemy turn and didnt finish for over one day (at which point i killed it) :/

I just encountered this over and over for several hours now. As much as I really find these games fun. This is enough for me on this game. Uninstalled and done with this waste of time.

Uninstalled and sued the devs.

Does this bug only exist in a Windows version? Never encountered it on Linux.

Ok, not sure if anyone is still stuck on this but I ran into the same bug today and I've found a solution. I'm playing on PC, The Directors Cut edition.
I successfully destroyed APEX, the team says "ok lets get out of here" or something along those lines, the text then disappears. Wherever I clicked to walk, nothing would happen, I tried to save and reload, but after saving it wouldn't show the saving confirmation, I checked the timestamp on the latest save and it wasn't saving a new file.

OK the solution to get through this bug and finish the mission:

First, hover the mouse over a door, open the menu and go to the character screen, cycle through the characters press escape to close the menu while clicking on the door, with any luck the party will walk over to the door, repeat this until you make your way to the yellow exit icon near the elevator.

If this doesn't work, instead of cycling through characters on the character screen go to the items screen in the menu, choose a character with a health kit (or any other usable consumable outside battle) select a character to give the consumable to, as menu disappears use the same click on door as the menu disappears method as described in the first solution.

If you have any issues, post here and I can explain further.

Cheers.
