Fun Class Choice?
I recently finished playing through Shadowrun Returns as a Street Samurai using basically only shotguns, who delved into decking to about 5. I like the idea of decking because it allows you to access so much more, and additionally from what I've heard this one centers around hacking and the like, so that'd fit the motif really well. The problem is, it seems you're basically a background character, not fighting, just... well, decking. I know even deckers CAN fight, but my point is they're not front and center, just scurrying around more or less. From what I've heard, rifles fit really well with deckers, but I'm just not sure I like being such a background character. If anyone wants to reassure me, I'd be happy to go with a decker. Other than that I have interest in going melee, or just a street samurai with a different weapon choice perhaps, but I think saving the melee thing for Shadowrun: Hong Kong would be really cool. I mean, comon, it's in Asia and I can be a literal ninja/samurai/whatever. But I digress, I don't really know to be honest. Thoughts? And thanks for any help.

I suggest:
Body 4(level to 6)
Willpower 4(level to 6)
Intelegent 4.
Charisma 4.

This will allow you to past most skill checks(need to level charisma if you want to talk your way out of problems otherwise leave it at 4)

You get a decker early on who can pass most decking checks.

You get four teammates who will have the required skills.

Personaliy i would go with a rigger.
Personal i prefeer not being shot at.
Having drones fighting for me allow me to keep myself safe.
It also fits the story.
As you where hired by an old "friend" who is a master decker that leads a team consisting of a shaman, A melee killing machine combat doctor and a ex commando.
So playing a class that they dont have would "fit" the roleplay a bit as you be adding to the team.

I don't know about riggers... It really just comes down to a difference in opinion here I think, but I prefer to be part of the action, in the midst of it all. As I said, I was a Street Samurai Shotgunner, so I was ranged yet on the closer side. I'd like to stay somewhat in the zone, and rigger is the opposite of that, considering how you play second fiddle to your drones. I might do it eventually but I don't think this time around...
And about your suggested stats, what kind of class would I start as, or would it be the "classless" choice? What would these stats work with in terms of combat and overall gameplay? Thanks

Classless.
Premade classes suck.
The stats are mostly just there to pass the skill test.
4 will get you past most skills checks and 6 will get you past the few difficult once's.
If you want to fight i suggest picking melee or range and focus on that.
You dont need to be a decker, mage, shaman, etc.
The game will give you allies who can forfill those roles.
What you need is to pick a weapon and master it.
So if you favor shotguns focus on shotguns.
If you favor blades focus on blade's.
Just dont try to master both.

If you want to feel the rush of combat i suggest focusing on melee and heavly upgrading yourself with cyberware.
Basicly try to make yourself like your teamate goldy.
Without the depressing personality if at all possible.

lol okay. So just one last question, do you prefer melee or ranged? I know ranged is a lil different, i think mainly visually, (if i'm not mistaken it has more "impact"), but what about melee? It seems so specific and a lil pigeon-holed, as it takes lots of investment yet you can't use guns.

Personaly i go for melee.
No reloading, lower chance of missing, higher damage.
And with the right cyberware upgrade you can take a beating and be across the map in two turns(useally you only need 1 turn to get to your enemy).
The shaman has haste by default.
It gives you one extra AP(action point) early on which is a godsend.
Also there are a few strenght check's so heaving high strengh helps.
I find that range misses to often for my taste.
You might want to put a few extra points in bio for healing(you will be in the middle of the enemy remember) or just use goldy.

Okay, I suppose I'll go melee with the stats you mentioned. Thanks!

I was really down on riggers until I started running one with two drones at once in that Antumbra Saga mod and it's kind of hilarious getting four attacks a turn + two meat shields. Blitz in the main game never takes it that far and it doesn't really show off what riggers can really do, I feel.
