Not too sure WHY the remaster
Hello all,

So I've never heard of this game on PS-Vita before, and people are claiming this is a Vita favorite, and I honestly can't understand why.

The combat is beyond Janky, and not fluid at all, and it almost feels like there's no reason to use combo's with weapons at all, and just spam one button, that being the light attack with pretty much every weapon, because the heavy attacks are useless damage wise. Sure the greatsword gets a combo with the heavy attack, however, it's also slower, and does FAR less damage than just spamming the normal attack on it. The SnS or just S..... (sword and shield without shield), there's absolutely no reason to use the heavy attack at all, even if you're trying to combo it into the normal attacks because again, it's weak, and just makes you jump around in a seemingly random completely missing the enemies altogether. The spear is the ONLY weapon I could possibly see anyone using for a melee weapon, as it actually has a use for not just spamming the normal attack, and a throw that negates the abductor shields while doing MASSIVE damage on top of you being able to aim, and not miss. Seriously, how the hell could anyone use any other weapon than the Spear? Even most of the Npc's use a spear, as if the dev's knew it was going to be the only viable Melee weapon. And I know the game is a remaster from 10 years ago, but damn, God-Eater's combat was WAY more fluid than this back than, and there was a reason to select diff weapons.

The story, and premise of this game is silly too, I swear to go it felt like I was just playing God Eater, a one-to-one reference. You're a Prisoner, and locked up, and only let loose to fight. Sounds familiar right? It feels like the story only takes a diff turn than God Eater, just to try and be different, and the Story thus far (9 hours in) didn't get any better. Now it just feels like it's trying to be some kind of Dot/Hack story and we're trying to find some mysterious entity that could possibly save the world. I honestly would have preferred if this game didn't have a story, because it's just bad.

The whole Abductor lore is interesting enough, but the battles are ALL the same. 9 hours in, and I've fought the same 3 Abductors for the 50th time now? The only thing that was different was the Spider, the flying Cat robot, and the Dragon from a specialized event, which has next to a near 0% of clearing, unless you have an immense amount of patience.

The PvPvE in this game is unique and definitely could be a huge selling factor if they make a sequel to this game, but I doubt it.

Seriously though, why did they "Remaster" this? And how on earth do people call this a Vita Favorite? I would've taken any other PS Vita remaster over this. Why didn't they bother remastering something worth while, like Soul Sacrifice? I'm pretty much done with this game now, 9 hours in, and I can tell I probably won't get much more enjoyment out of it. Don't regret the purchase, just not that good of a game, and definitely did not deserve a Remaster.

Cool story bruh.

Because people like me who played it back in the day, enjoyed it. Enjoy it for what it is. If it's not for you, then refund and don't play it. That's the blessing of steam buddy, not every game that you think you have interest in is going to be a good experience for you.

It's sad to see that this one isn't it, but I respect the opinion and honesty. Personally I threw hundreds of hours into it on the Vita so there'll be a nostalgia grab for some people.

All the best

It's definitely not for everyone - but neither is Soul Sacrifice. If you appreciate Soul Sacrifice I fail to see how you can't see what makes Freedom Wars unique, but that's fine.

I love the PvP aspect, the grappling hook, escorting people, the story conceit and world building/aesthetics. It is awesome that we can now play it on Steam with modern polish (it looks and runs a lot better) and working online.

I personally would rank Soul Sacrifice Delta as a better package, but that also had the benefit of fixing a lot of issues/adding a lot of content over vanilla Soul Sacrifice. I wish Freedom Wars would have gotten the same chance.

The reason they brought this over and bothered to negotiate with Sony for the rights is because they want to make it into a franchise. Freedom Wars Remastered isn't the endgame, Freedom Wars 2 is - and I believe (conjecture) it is already in production.

There's not a lot of games that dare to take up the same spot as Monster Hunter, I'm just really happy that Soul Sacrifice, Ragnarok Odyssey, Lord of Apocalypse, God Eater, Toukiden, Freedom Wars exist - each one being very different from MH despite obviously drawing great inspiration from it.

(Soul Sacrifice, Ragnarok Odyssey and Lord of Apocalypse also deserve to be saved from Vita jail.)

Sounds like a case of 2020+ FOMO-syndrome to me.
During the VITA era of multiplayer monster hunter clones and likes, this stood out, was fun for its time and quite remarkable with a cool story and progression system.
Tis all. Not rocket science, no walls of text required.
Excited to revisit it once issues are fixed.

You have to understand, the PSP/Vita were janky handhelds. Any jank is either left over from being a vita title, or was added in the counter-jank the built-in jank of being a Vita game.

I love freedom wars cuz your a human with a big gun and sword and you can rip mechs apart piece by piece, I especially love ripping the spider mechs apart in this game they are my fave. My char uses the nickname "The Severer" because I usually use light melee and focus on cutting body parts off of the mechs to remove their weapons and especially to get rid of the shield generators etc.

The story is mid at best, but I love the world its in and how the game flows and such. I play it for the gameplay not for the story. The story I find kinda weird because why does your char keep doing what Aries M says to do, what drives them to listen to her? this is never really explained at all in the story.

Its janky because its a monster hunter clone. MH has always been janky as hell in its combat, the Souls games like Elden Ring and such are also just as janky. The diff is its good jank not bad jank. Gives the game a bit of uniqueness to it. Like most people you ask about bethesda games is prob going to mention how they are always filled with jank and such.

Lets be real though no one plays a monster hunter like game for the story, they play it for killing huge monsters and such. I mean the story in monster hunter world was also pretty stupid, and wilds will prob be just as dumb. No one plays these types of games for the story, granted a good story will add to the game of course, but its not going to make me dislike it as long as the combat is fun.

I mean how many games let you literally cut parts off of a 4 story tall mech? Freedom Wars is pretty unique in that aspect. I've played most of the monster hunter like games and yeah, most don't let you rip enemies apart piece by piece like freedom wars does, its something unique to it.

You should give Toukiden 1/2 a shot if you like slicing big monsters up.
Soul Sacrifice was absolutely a better game. Not that Freedom Wars was bad, but Soul Sacrifice was pretty amazing.

Freedom Wars was weird in that the first third of the game was pretty underwhelming, and only really fun once you get into the tools and enemies that take advantage of the tearing apart mechanics.

feel the same but also really eager to get into the multiplayer again! It was difficult back in 2014 for me, barely anyone in the uk/europe brought a vita! I had to play in the middle of the night with the USA and JP crowds XD

I thought the other person who said, "Why remaster dark souls" was something else but then we get you. Humanity is evolving backwards. We're all doomed.

How the hell do you play a game for 9 hours within the first 24 hours of release if you dislike it enough to write a novel on all the problems you think it has?
