Bug: RoadRedemptionEarlyAccess.exe is impossible to terminate, must restart (Win7)
After any circumstance causes the game to exit, it is impossible to re-launch Road Redemption without restarting the computer, because Steam reports the game as "Running", and won't launch because "it's still running". I look in my Task Manager and there it is occupying a 150MB memory footprint. I try both "End process" and "End process tree", no error dialoge will appear but RoadRedemptionEarlyAccess.exe is still listed in task manager, and I can't get it out of working memory any other way than restarting. This has been a problem for a few months at this point, but I waited to report it since I previously thought it was common and known, but it still hasn't been fixed even after expansive updates and other fixes.
Let me know if I can help solve this. Will send what's necessary.

I can't replicate this issue. What OS are you using?

I've tried to recreate this issue with a wide variety of test machines and also haven't been able to reproduce it - I've never seen it reported by anyone else either. Further to Paul's request above, can you give us some more information about your specific configuration? Just the usual, for example:

-Laptop or desktop.
-Available RAM.
-Exact CPU model.
-Graphics card model & mem capacity of the graphics card.
-Any other relvant information on your graphics card(s) (e.g. crossfile/SLI setup).
-O/S (you've said Win 7, is that SP1? And I assume you're running 64 bit, but please clarify).
-Controller type (i.e. KB+Mouse or gamepad, exact gamepad model if applicable).
-Anti-virus software (including vendor and version number).
-Windows Update last updated date.
-HDD config (e.g. 1 drive, 2 drives, X drives in RAID mode, etc.).
-Manufaturer-specifc software that may be running (i.e. if it's a laptop with any pre-installed vendor-specific software.

-And of course, anything else you can think of (software or hardware) that may be relevant or quite unique to your setup (e.g. NAS storage, multiple monitors, dual boot system, etc etc).

The more info the better!

Cheers, good gaming!

Thank you both for your will to help me out and fix this, I really mean that, it's great to see developers so willing to track down and fix issues like this.
However, the issue may or may not be out of your control, because I've come to the conclusion that after having the very same issue with Energy Hook, House Party, Sega MegaDrive & Genesis Classics, Surgeon Simulator, and Tabletop Simulator, which are all Unity-based games, that the problem is to blame on the Unity engine itself. These are the only games in my library that have this issue--all my other games close out just fine.

However, for future references, here's a Speccy.

Operating System
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP1
CPU
Intel Core i3 2130 @ 3.40GHz 58 °C
Sandy Bridge 32nm Technology
RAM
6.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz (9-9-9-24)
Motherboard
Dell Inc. 0XR1GT (CPU 1) 28 °C
Graphics
DELL ST2410 (1920x1080@60Hz)
2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GT 730 (ZOTAC International) 42 °C
Storage
931GB Western Digital WDC WD10EZEX-75ZF5A0 SCSI Disk Device (SATA) 40 °C
121MB M-SysT5 Dell Memory Key USB Device (USB)
Optical Drives
MATSHITA DVD+-RW SW820 SCSI CdRom Device
Audio
Conexant SmartAudio HD

Other: Avast AntiVirus 17.5.2302 (build 17.5.3559.0) which is current latest.
Controller is keyboard, although I always have plugged in a crappy cheapo DirectInput 360-style controller which is incapable of XInput unless through x360ce, which I haven't used with this game. Unplugging doesn't affect the issue.
I have a Dell but I've uninstalled all pre-installed bloatstuffs.
Used Windows Update up until Attack of the Windows 10.

From what I can tell, nothing really looks out of the ordinary. Not sure what's up with this, but the bug itself isn't actually a Road Redemption problem.

Also, as a lifelong lover of Road Rash, I've been longing for a game like this ever since the Genesis. I love your game! My only real complaint is that the speed of the motorcycles doesn't quite seem as EXTREME as the classic games. Aside from that, the game is still truly just as fun to play.

There are some unlockable bikes at the end of the list that go insanely fast. Like strapping a jet engine to a bike fast.

Thanks for the info Shawnie1, that's very helpful. Unfortunately I think you're right, this does sound like an issue with Unity rather than Road Redemption. But this is still very useful as we can check Unity's bug-tracker to see if this has been reported to them and has any known workarounds or fixes.

By the looks of things you've got a pretty standard setup there, I can't see anything that might cause Unity to trip-up when closing a game. If anything that's good, it increases the chances that Unity have received other reports about this and are investigating.

We can certainly follow this up with Unity but unfortunately we can't submit a reproducible example because we just can't reproduce it. However, something you could do that may be of benefit to you and many others is to report this issue to the developers of any other Unity games you've experienced it on. This will get further developers working behind the scenes with Unity, potentially even reproducing the issue, which will escalate it and hopefully drive further action on the part of Unity.

Thanks again, we'll keep you updated on anything we find and we would certainly suggest getting similar reports out to other devs using Untity, if that's possible.

Cheers, good gaming!
