L3 click for boost Please
It seems small but i think it will really make the game more comfortable to play. The double up press on the dpad is pretty annoying. Game is making great progress other than that.

No way, devs don't turn to a default control scheme!
It will be damm hard to keep holding L3 to boost all the nitro.
L3 was not made for it. It's not like a sprint from FPS games, the sprint is shorter compared to the Nitro from Road Redemption.

But I think you will be able to configure the controls the way you want it soon so don't worry.

If i get this this thread correct he wants to move it to the the left stick button if so i also think that would be a really bad move to do and i see absolutely no reason whatsover to do that. I suggested tp the devs that left stick button was asigned the f12 screenshot taker as its not being used at present and its pretty hard to take screenshots while driving with a controller and at the same time it wouldnt inteferre with those playing on keyboard. It should be easily done to assign f12 there so hopefully it will be added in the future.

double tap gas to boost.

I don't remember what L1 is being used for but that would suit me fine for nitro boost. In any case, as long as it is given as ANY button I would happily buy XPadder so I could arrange them any way I wish. But yeah... Double-Tap is good advice for zombies. Not great for nitro. :zombiehead:

Carm3D,
I have no problems with double tap.
Double tap was even used on Road Rash from Sega Mega Drive Genesis and 3DO.

L1 = Jump Jets

Look below for all controls:

Oh yeah... Jump-jets. L3 or R3 might be better for jump jets as they are only used in short bursts. The 3DO did what it did because it had fewer buttons to choose from.

i dont see why the left stick wouldnt work. you wouldnt have to hold the button, maybe it activates the boost, then pulling back the left stick could deactivate it just like it normally does. I see no downside to this change, just quicker boost activation.

I wonder why it did not have a dedicated button for Road Rash games on PS1:

Road Rash 3D

Road Rash Jailbreak

I wonder why non of those games had guns and boost jumps and grappling hooks.

Many Playstation games eventually adopted the use of the O button as a modifier for the X button becuse while you are holding the X button it is very easy to roll your thumb over and also press the O. This would work for Road Resemption as well. Of course, as long as a single button press is given as an alternative option to double-tapping we could re-map the buttons any way we like with 3rd party utilities. :ggechamp:

Surely to satisfy everyone we just need fully mappable controls with an additional option to enable "boost on double tap of accelerator". Then you can bind "Boost" to any button you want and leave the checkbox disabled, don't explicitly bind Boost to anything but enable the checkbox (and boost by double-tap of the accelerator), or explicitly bind Boost to a button and enable the checkbox, then you can do it either way.

Max, great suggestion. This way the user can have full control of how he wants to play. Better than pre-made controller layouts.

This is a racing game, with combat, so quick responsive control is one of the most important factors in its gameplay. Double tapping the gas not only restricts how quickly i can activate my boost (which is crucial in many situations), it also restricts my ability to make subtle adjustments to my speed in combat, because if i ride up next to a guy, and let go of the gas to hit him, then hit the gas and repeat (because several weapons take multiple hits to kill with), I end up boosting ahead when i wanted to kill him for health or more boost. Seems like such a simple fix to what is my biggest problem with this game
Zoukambada Jun 29, 2015 @ 7:38pm
This is why it would be good to customize keys like Max posted earlier.
Some people like your idea and have the same problems, others just don't have any problem at all with tapping, take myself for example.

Hopefully the devs did read your post and will think in something.

Also worth adding - Bermese Herbs, have you ever actually tried to accurately steer with the left analogue stick while it's help down (i.e. L3 is depressed)? because I've played a couple of games that do this and I found it really hard to make fine left/right movements on the analogue stick while you're putting all that additional pressure on it to activate L3.

I admit it may just be me - but if you haven't already, give it a try. I don't think L3 is mapped to anything at the moment, so just start a normal race, get up to speed, hold down L3 (which should have no effect) and see how it affects your ability to steer with the left stick. I find it a lot harder to be honest, but I still think the best solution is key customisation because that keeps everone happy, set it up however you like it.
