To Devs: Source Code?
The kickstarter campaign had this statement:

Originally posted by kickstarter:
A few months after Road Redemption launches, we’ll be releasing our full C# source code, and Unity project files to the public.

Our top backers will get early access to these assets.

Since Road Redemption is being made in Unity 4, these backers can easily release their own variations on iOS and Android devices, if they so choose, or develop their own standalone PC game based on our assets.

In preparation for release, we’ve already started heavily documenting our code, far beyond what we need for internal use.

Was the source code released? I would love to tinker with it

This is something we're trying to figure out. There are parts of the game that were created by 3rd party plugins but don't require them to EXIST. There are also some 3rd party plugins that need to be there just for certain things to work.

So we plan to release much of the game's code and assets, but unfortunately not all of them.

I assume the third party plugins problem is the reason we don't have modding support/source code yet, or if we're ever going to get it. And the only person who actually made progress on a mod tool via hacking never released anything (let alone bothered to say anything about it past a certain point, just went into silent mode) :/

for source code releases, isn't it typical to exclude all 3rd party libraries?
leave the refences and code that hits it.. if anyone wants to actually compile the code they need to obtain those binaries and refresh the references -- these are usually in the game folder. or they can buy them like you had to, depending on the license terms of the library.

As with any game these days, RR is reliant on its fair share of middleware and I know that's caused a headache in regard to the source code release. But that aside, since development of Road Redemption was expanded beyond its initial goals and is still ongoing (the developers are currently working on the first major content update as well as porting the game to PS4/XB1), I doubt we'll see any code release while the devs are still actively working on it.

Still, if a source code release is going to be possible then it will be announced here first so please keep an eye out for future announcements!

Cheers, good gaming!

I know there was some concern about the source code falling into the wrong hands and a rogue nation using it to train an army of motorcycle-riding super soldiers.

Will circle back on this with the appropriate NGO's.

Any update on this?
