What do I need for Local multiplayer?
This game looks amazing, like a flash back to my childhood!! I desperately want to buy this game, but the main reason why I want this game is to be able to play with the same people I played the original n64 Road Rash version with.

What do I need to do to physical set up a local multiplayer game? Meaning controllers, keyboards, applications.

Two out of the four people I want to game with don’t have a steam accounts and are not interested, plus we played the old game local so it only makes sense to bring it back local. I strictly play online so I have no idea how to go about playing steam or this game locally.

What do I need to buy (kinds of controllers, downloads, keyboards) and how much different is game set up then online multiplayer?

Just to make things more difficult. I do have a pc (windows 7) but it’s a desktop, I also own a MacBook pro which is the device I was hoping on using, because we would most likely (meaning for sure) not be playing at my house. So for my over all question of “how to best set up local multiplayer”, include “for a mac” at the end of that. But if there is a much easier, cheaper and better way with a pc, then I can just hall the whole desk top to my friends.

Also since this the most likely going to be the only game I’m going to play locally. An affordable price would be nice.

Well, all you need for PC is four XBox 360 (or XBox One) controllers. Plug 'em all in and away you go. You can reduce that to three controllers if someone doesn't mind using the keyboard and mouse (KB and mouse controls are pretty good, especially for aiming guns). When you're playing local splitscreen you don't need to worry about your friends having the game or even a Steam account, only one person needs a Steam account and the game (which will be you of course).

It should be very similar on a mac, I know it's possible to use an XBox 360 / XBox One controller on a mac by using unofficial drivers (since Microsoft don't make drivers for the mac, surprise). However, I'm not sure if there would be any issues with using multiple XBox controllers with a mac. I can't think there would be but it's not something I've ever tried so I can't say for sure. It definitely works for PC though.

Other than that you shouldn't need anything special - just a controller for each player (minus one if somebody is happy to take KB and mouse).

Let me know if you have any further questions and I'll try to answer them, but I'm afraid I may not have all the answers when it comes to playing on a mac!

Cheers, good gaming!

Awesome!! Thank you so much. I’ve never set up a local multiplayer game before and I tried to google it and when I asked about a mac the answers were really confusing and sounded more like a 50, 50 chance if it would work or not. Then when I asked about pc’s the answer sounded way to simple that I thought it must be wrong and they’d suggest really expensive controllers.
I spent hours looking into this, thanks for simplifying it for me.

For the discussion, if anyone knows what’s needed and steps to take to setup a four player local games on a Mac. I feel like that might be knowledge worth knowing.
As for me I’m saying screw it, and hauling my desktop around. It’s cheaper and also sounds surprisingly easier.

local two player is not working with more than one controller. if you have two steam controllers connected (wirelss or with cable) everything is messed up - cant turn to left or right. xbox controllers wont work anyway. you will join as two player at the same time. there a not very much games on mac that are playable with two players on one system without troubles.. i have this issues with lots of games like Rocket League, Guns, Gore & Canelloni
