Tips and tricks?
Anyone got some good tips to get a leg up on the game? The furthest level I've been able to reach is the Stigma boss and would kind of like to get further...

Try different bikes. The handling can make a huge difference. Same goes for riders and their bonuses.

Learn to deflect attacks and kick NPCs into environmental crashes. It thins out the pack, and you get nice bonuses for it.

Learn to use guns, and to switch weapons on the fly. It's a little challenging with a controller, but it can be done.

Swords do extra damage to shielded enemies. Use them to take out Sigma shields, then use C4 or pipe bombs on the boss.

Use the Classic mode to learn the tracks. Play each one until you've got the gold.

Be patient. I don't think I beat the campaign until I was close to maxing out the skill tree. I've beaten it twice more since then.

Cheers, much appreciated, mate.

no problem. One other: jump jets are nice to have on the rooftop levels, but they're even more useful on the "it's raining cars!" maps. There's an upgrade about halfway through the second tier of the skill tree that lets you start the game with jump jets. Worth prioritizing.

Everything that Moggy said! But most importantly, understand that this is never a game you'll complete on your first run... or your second, or your third, or probably your tenth - but keep at it! Buy the "Medal of Valor" upgrade from the shop when it appears (if you can safely afford it without missing out on a more important upgrade) as this gives you 15% more XP and when you're actually spending your XP on permanent upgrades after a run is over, upgrade the perk that gives you extra XP as soon as you can.

More XP means more progress because that's what you spend on permanent upgrades after a run has ended and the more you can fill out your skill tree, the easier the game will get. XP upgrades (either temporary from the shop or permanent from the skill tree) will naturally speed this process up!

Good luck, cheers!

i always use a taser against the SIGMA Leader and the Assassin to take out their shield right away. I've found that guns are not really effective against them so I tend to try to damage them with heavy weapons until their helmet is off and then I finish them with a sword.

Last thing regarding boss battles: ignore the other riders as much as possible. if you need health, nitro or they are clearly in the way, sure take them out (C4 explosives come in handy in those situations), but your main focus is the boss itself.

Good point about the taser. Be aware that the ammo belt upgrade also increases the number of C4 and taser charges you can carry, including for riders who don't use guns.

Nice, thanks for the tips. Any tips with regards the skill tree?

Skill tree depends a lot on your playstyle/favourite rider. I'd also recommend mastering the (rarely used) grab key - it comes really handy with ninjas, who die instantly after grabbing them and hitting their heads against the bike.

I really cannot understand why so many people find this game so hard XD

Yes, grab is good. It can also be used to knock off helmets, setting up decaps.

Re why people find this game hard: how old are you, and how many hours a week do you spend playing reflex-based video games?

Eyesight, reaction time and reflex speed degrade steadily from around age 18 on. The decline is steeper in males, and can be exacerbated by lifestyle. And practice makes perfect -- adult gamers with jobs and families don't have as much time to hone their gameplay.

I'm an adult gamer. I love RR and have a lot of fun with it. But I'm well aware that somebody 20-30 years younger than me could probably kick my ass (unless they just didn't know the game). That's why there's always Civ... ;-)

How do you do that?

RB on the controller (check game for keyboard equivalent). Only works when you have a melee weapon equipped. After you've grabbed with RB, either X or Y will perform a headslam attack.

For keyboard, Q then click for slam, control for kick or you can just steer them into an object.

I like this response. Been playing RR for a while, still a favorite even though I'm old... I've come to enjoy the challenge, and completed the game with most of the characters.
Obvious point: the game is a lot easier to beat if your character can use guns and you limit yourself to using guns. In striking combat, you really have to develop the skill of knowing when to deflect/kick/grab. (Admittedly I almost never grab.) Hacking and slashing is always more risky, because multiple opponents will ride along both sides of you, especially when you play the more difficult characters. And kicking is not always in time to stop a an opponent's strike. Very hard not to take at least some damage, even with just kicking your way around.
For harder characters like the Barbarian and David Dunn, I offer that the easiest strategy is to mostly use guns plus kicking and save your money to get the Level 3 machine gun. Also, with these characters, you don't want to kill more than necessary to get nitro.
