Thanks for the kind words! We have Nvidia Mulit-Res Shading tech working for Nivdia cards. We are seeing great gains on those scenes that are still GPU bound.
Thank you for saying that. I actually hadn't heard that before. I just assumed that a title with VR support for only the Oculus Rift was due to an exclusivity deal where the developer was compensated. I'm glad to know that you didn't succumb to any such tactic from Facebook and Oculus.
Anyway, I have already purchased Adr1ft, although I own an HTC Vive. I bought it the moment I heard that the game would be coming to the Vive! Adr1ft looks great, and I really enjoy space atmospheres in VR.
Part of me felt unsure about supporting developers who participate in platform exclusivity deals, so I'm relieved to hear that was never the case with Three One Zero or 505 Games.
I eagerly await the official Vive support patch; however, I'll give the instructions here a try as well, as I'd love to start playing Adr1ft (I've never launched it in non-VR mode -- I don't want to spoil the experience on a traditional monitor!).
Can we expect the Nvidia gains to come through along with the vive support patch?
Cheers :)
Since this is a Steam game, you'll want the latest version of the Revive patch (currently 0.6.2). Direct link to download: https://github.com/LibreVR/Revive/releases/download/0.6.2/RevivePatch.zip Please note this may go inactive in the future as well (for instance, when the author releases version 0.6.3 or higher), so again the main project page on Github is your best source for valid downloads!
Edit: As in the steam patch? Or should it now run just using the latest Revive install?
Edit #2: I just re-read you post and realised you did in fact say that the patch is required - my bad! :P
The following are my more verbose step-by-step instructions, for anyone else who may run into snags trying to pull off what the OP described:
The full path will be similar to this, depending upon where you installed it:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\ADR1FT\ADR1FT\Binaries\Win64
Troubleshooting:
- Do you have the Oculus software installed? (It doesn't need to be running/open, but I have tried everything with and without the Oculus software on my PC, and it is definitely required.)
- Did you disable the Desktop Game Theatre feature for Adr1ft?
- Have you quit SteamVR and exited Steam entirely since running the Revive installer? You'll need to relaunch both programs after Revive is in place.
- Verify that Revive is running after you launched SteamVR. Within SteamVR, open the menu and look for the Revive button at the bottom of menu screen (alongside the Steam and Vive buttons, etc.) Alternatively, run Task Manager and see if ReviveOverlay.exe is running. If the Revive button is missing, or ReviveOverlay.exe isn't running, use the Revive Dashboard shortcut in your Start Menu to launch it. That will resolve this issue.
- Did you attempt to launch Adr1ft through Steam? Don't do that! Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\ADR1FT\ADR1FT\Binaries\Win64 and manually run ADR1FT-Win64-Shipping.exe instead.
- Do you have a compatible controller attached to your computer? Recall that Adr1ft doesn't yet support the Vive controllers.
Edit: I'd also add something that has took me a while to work out with a lot of Rift titles and that is the emphasis on having an Xbox 360 controller. I tried a steam controller with an Xbox profile plus other bluetooth controllers and found that unless you specifically have an Xbox controller you might be out of luck. I have since sorted my controller so I couldn't say for certain if this issue effects Adr1ft but it certainly does with Edge of Nowhere and Chronos so it's worth considering if you get stuck.
So based on the times listed it looks like I'm late to the party so I understand if thats why I'm having issues. I've read the instructions and followed them all to the letter but I can't seem to get it to work. Even followed the troubleshooting guide but every time I try loading the game I get the message "Unreal Engine has stopped working." I do see the white screen in the Vive but it looks like the game crashes before it's able to get past that white screen. I bought the game with the steam summer sale. I bought the game iwth the intention of waiting till it was officially supported but then I found this Post. Any new players having the same issue?
My PC Specs:
CPU: Intel Core-i7 4770K 3.50GHz
Mem: 32Gb DDR3
Mobo: Gigabite Z87X-OC
GPU: EVGA GTX 980 Ti Hybid
Not sure if anyone else has it working on the latest revive? I figured I'll just wait for them to release it, especially as apparently support for new VR features to speed things up are incoming too.
