Avoiding the ridiculous amount of recoil
Okay, before I drive myself nuts, I have to know: How do people aim so well in this game?

Maybe I've been spoiled by less realistic games, but for the life of me I simply can't figure out how people manage to keep on target. Firing any longer than 2 seconds, it seems, launches my reticule into the sky, and before I can correct it, I'm dead.

SURELY there has to be a good game in here, somewhere, but between the difficulty of aiming, the very small clip sizes (the lack of auto-reload when the clip is empty is a bit of a bother, but that's besides the point), and the utter arrogance of people in-game who are completely unwilling to help a newbie out, is making me regret buying this.

I stick to the rifles and only hip fire. Aiming down the sight is a bad idea.

Correct it as you fire, I'm sorry to hear about your experience with the community :/

It can be worth your while to note what servers you like or dislike, and times that you witness various trends. I've had really fun experiences playing with a great group of people that don't take things too seriously, and try and help you out by asking you to provide support in various points and functions, and don't seem to mind too much if you're fodder. Then I've also had quite opposite experiences. It's all a matter of maturity. You'll find out pretty quick if you're playing on a server with a bunch of punks who can't be bothered with anything that doesn't meet their expectations. My advice is to note the server and time, and jump off right away if you detect intolerance. Don't invest too much time or aggravation. It's not worth it.

As stated abowe... correct it as you fire, by aiming downwards while shooting, that helps.

Crouching also helps, and going prone(lying down) helps a lot, especially with the BAR and the STG 44.

Iron sights are hard to get used to due to the recoil, but a good shot can be incredibly deadly with the M1 Garand and ironsights, which i use often at long range, but i never bother with Iron sights on the K98 riffle, since it's bolt action anyway, and accurate as hell.

Beginers like to use the riffles, so i recommend you to start there, when using smg's, (Thompson and MP40) you should definitely crouch, and assault riffles, you should try to be lying down(crouching is still ok at shorter distances).

Do the same thing as in counter-strike. Keep aiming down when firing. Not exactly the same way as in CS, but keep pushing your gun down and you should be able to hit your target.

my suggestions are use the rifles to start with and hip fire (not scoped in with the iron sites) about 80% of the time. The only time you wanna be sited in is anticipating a target about 35 yards away or more around a corner or peeking over something which is about the width of most of the town squares and street intersections. If you just have to use a mg, I'd suggest the BAR and burst fire it while bumbing your mouse / controller PoV down every second or 2 to keep it from riding up. Otherwise, practice strafing and firing a lot to get better at it.. Good players strafe and hop a lot.
