RO2 should have been like RO1 or even more realistic or hardcore than RO1. But tripwire wanted the game to be more popular, so they added arcade elements, but it was actually for the worse, since red orchestra players were a little disappointed. But I don't think that's so much the problem, the problem is tripwire, which is a lazy company that doesn't care about their games, they abandoned RO2, as well as RO1, which is a game with great potential, so if tripwire updated RO1 and I would correct things that are basic, the darkest hour (DH) mod would not exist and the vast majority would return to RO1. And in fact the good things that DH has and that makes it have so many positive reviews are things that it maintains from RO1, such as the combat mechanics, tanking, gore, and original maps from RO1. And in general everything from DH or everything created by the DH dev team (darklight games) is of poor quality and stinks, especially the squads, logi and build system, which was plagiarized from project reality.
But still RO2 is one of the best WW2 games and has a unique and better atmosphere than HLL. And the arcade elements it has are basically the HUD, zoom when aiming and the achievements. And you can disable some of those things yourself, such as zoom when aiming.
Grew up with this game. I would still play it today but there are no AUS servers unfortunately :(
Company of Heroes 1 was really good.
DoD:S forever baby !!!
DOD Source was a rushed product and it was merely to show off fancy mechanics and game engine stuff.... valve legit didn't care if it ruined the competitive scene!
Ro: Darkest Hour
Post Scriptum
On the other hand, dod source's gunplay is dumb, nerferd, unrealistic and inconsistent. It feels like it was overbalanced and nerfed by the same guy who created tf2, so that it wouldn't be too hard for a 12 year old kids, but in practice it turned out to be more unbalanced and more unplayable.
Also, in dod1.3 the community is better, and there are no servers with dumb rules like the 6thRB server.
