Any advice I seem to be getting killed all the time?

When you start playing? Old game, dudes been playing for a damn long time. Will take a while to start getting the kills.

I did play 8 years ago and was nuch better, but i stopped for a few years, seem to have lost it

Same here. Just started playing again. Not sure why but it's very different from other FPS in getting it right. So you just need to get back to how you used to play ;)

I came back to the game after a long time, I found that I had to slow my game play down and not rush into the city square spraying my thompson. Slow calculated moves/advances is how you win / get kills.

if your still getting killed left and right then just run around with a grenade in your hand with the pin pulled, you might get a kill on the guy that just killed you when your grenade blows up after you died.

Just stick to some simple things, and you will get better with the time. Move behind covers (where you can), listen for sounds around you and check the minimap once in a while, to see where your team mates got ground covered and where they did not. Also, unlike most of the fps games, in dod you will die pretty fast usually, so you need decent reaction time, besides accuracy ;)
