Killing enemies in Condemned didn't make the ending "bad" and at least the 2nd one had both good and bad endings.
Which one of them was an FPP game though as that's what I'm talking about here? None.
Like I've written ever since 1 or 2yrs after Penumbra came out the market got literally flooded with "clones" of it, so FPP horrors in which you can either only run or hide.
This is really getting boring after so many years. For example Outlast 2. The game has some of the best graphics I've ever seen along with amazing setting and the vibe, I only played the PS4 version though so PC version is probably much better graphically, but I guess it's my last "walking simulator" horror game.
Some of the mechanincs in Outlast 2 were really stupid, as for example you're being attacked by a guy with machete, there's a ton of different items lying around like hammers, shovels etc. and the character can't pick them up to fight back? That's just stupid and boring. If I'd be attacked by somebody with any sort of melee weapon while being cornered and have some sort of an item to use myself next to me, would I be standing like a pole and wait to be killed?
All I'm saying here is that walking simulators are just plainly boring and all FPP horror games in the last few years are nothin g but walking simulators with the difference of being able to die in them.
So which RECENT FPP horror games that have combat can you mention then?
Finished it on PS4. Good game but it still doesn't make FPP horror games with combat "plenty" like Zed Clampet said.
Also, from what I've read in the reviews for Get Even combat is just around 10% of the whole game? I guess I'll pass then. I've honestly got enough of walking simulators. Last one like that I've finished was Outlast 2 which was great and one of the best looking games ever (textures and attention to detail were just unbelievable) and I've played it on PS4, but that's the limit of the walking simulators I can stand unfortunately.
I just asked about it again as the guy mentioned that there was a "plenty of FPP horror games" with combat in recent years. Condemned 2 was the last FPP horror game with combat until Resident Evil 7 came out this year and that's 1 game in 7yrs!
Why can't anyone make a game similar to Condemned 2? This is the only game which made me really scared aside of Silent Hill 2 and proved that combat doesn't make it less scary.
Condemned series showed that you can make a great and seriously scary horror FPP game with combat. What is it about this phenomenon of walking simulators nowadays? They were fun and unique in the beginning but now there's just too many of them.
I simply find it stupid already after so many years that you're getting cornered by an armed guy in Outlast 2 (again game is VERY good), you got a TON of farming tools around, like: pitchforks, shovels etc. and only thing you can do is die...
Is it seriously so hard to implement combat in a horror game? It is possible to make a really scary game with combat. Like I've already mentioned, Condemned series along with Silent Hill 2 were the only games ever that actually made me scared and guess what? All three had combat in them.
This is seriously stupid when you get cornered by somebody who wants to kill you, you have a number of objects which you could use to at least try to defend yourself but nope, all you can do is stand and wait to get killed. Boring!
In Condemned, if you didn't have any weapons at your disposal at the moment, you could either use your fists which was really well done and pretty effective or literally tear out a pipe, a board etc. off of the wall to defend yourself.
I don't know if you've played Condemned 2 (it was consoles exclusive) but the levels and the vibe of this game was INSANE! There was a point in the game where you were running away from a gigantic zombie grizzly bear throught the abandoned woods cabin as well as an abandone haunted dolls factory.
I so wish that the Condemned series dev makes another game in this series. Both of them were so good :).
