Can you play single player?

you can play on your own if thats what you mean - but you are likely to encounter other players. There are PVE servers - so sorta single player - at least you are less likely to be killed another player on one of those (not sure if you can actually kill someone on a PVE server other than AI)

From my experience the PvE servers are not good. Vary feu mutants to PvE against.

Just play on a server that has no KOS.

There's no real PVE mode so you can still be killed or raided by players on any server. You can however play on low populated servers if you want to avoid other players or join a whitelisted no kos server with active admins. There are some good base building and role play servers too if that's your thing, just don't expect much threat from the environment.

The problem with single player (= playing on a lone server) is that the game's description is very misleading. Normally you'd think it's a survival game where you fight/avoid mutants while trying to find food, ammo and other resources to get by. In reality there are almost no mutants (you can walk around for an hour without even seeing one) and the few you meet are too stupid to catch you. Every house has food and/or water inside, so that's not a problem either. Without other players it's not worth playing.

On a PVE server you can have a pleasant, social experience, though obviously the game is completely devoid of any challenge there.

On PVP servers you get a bad deathmatch game on a huge map where losers who aren't skilled enough for a real fps like Counter Strike can boost their low self-confidence by killing badly equipped newbies who are trying to start a conversation on sight.

The problem with "single player" is that this is an online game. There is PVE in the form of mutants and some wildlife. Enough of it for a single player experience ? Maybe not for some people, but the game is not misleading or misadvertising. The game is being made how the devs are envisioning it, and that is a PVP game with PVE elements integrated. You want the full experience ? Don't be offended when someone says "this is a PVP game" or that there has to be player interaction. The danger comes from players and mutants. Take away one or the other, how can you complain the game is boring when the store page description is very clear on the kind of game this is ?

As for complaints of PVP and KOS, why are you people playing online games that advertise having player interaction then ? And I can't believe you mentioned CS GO; toxic community, crosshairs, bunny hopping. A considerally more casual/basic game in terms of gameplay or mechanics, and you try to say people have no skill 'cause they KOS or kill people in this game.

"a real FPS", This game is more than an FPS. It's survival, which a lot of people would argue people who play games like CS GO wouldn't be able to even comprehend playing. People might not play games like CS GO because they want more to their games than just killing people, which is all you do in vanilla CS GO 'cause that's all the game was originally made for.
