what purpose do clans serve?

Me and my friend just bought this game and he created a clan, what does it do, it doesnt seem me to help find him

if you get walkie talkies you can chat with clan members anywhere on the map

If you are in a clan you can open both a door from a base you created. Or create a base together. Otherwise only the player that place the plot sign can build.

If you create a base and hes not in the clan he cant open doors. Just by raiding. Or if you open him the door of course..

And being on a clan or not you will be not able to see him on map or any type of name on him. The best thing is to stick together or have clothes to identify each other.

You can use the same base/bases.
If not in a clan, then you can't place any parts at he's base, or open and lock doors (defend it)...
