Played more than 40 waves, not a single crash or freeze.

SteelPanther, almost certainly a graphics card issue. What GFX card do you have? What driver version? What directX version?

I really wish to play multiplayer and just can't seem to get it to work over 2 different networks. My buddy opened all the suggested ports, and I even manually entered his i.p. using the join multiplayer button, but to no avail.

phillburgh16 - please try using a different person to host. Does this help?

Otherwise Hamachi will work.

I have not tried it the other way around yet, no. I do not know my password, and haven't gotten to factory reset it yet. I will definitely try hamachi though! Thank you very much for the extra suggestions.
You have to forward port 26999 on your router .For a full guide on port-forwarding go to http://portforward.com, there you should find the required steps to open a port in your router. After that you can host a game and invite your friends by pressing shift+tab and then clicking invite to game. At least that has worked for me :P

I couldn't get the port forwarding to work with my current modem, I also disabled my Windows Defender and my current Virus protection with zero results. Apparently, I am missing something through this procedure, and there wasn't anymore information to go on to continue. Here is what worked to allow me the ability to host a multiplayer game, which was tried and tested successfully. I am going to put the step by step details to make sure it hopefully works for you even the mundane or obvious.

1. Download Hamachi - https://hamachi.en.softonic.com this is the site I downloaded it from seems to be working perfect. Make sure to pay attention when installing to avoid installing more than just Hamachi. (free programs seem to add extra bloatware in there since it is free)

2. Install Hamachi program.

3. Run Hamachi program.

4. Setup an account with Hamachi. (it is free, it allows you to setup a network)

5. Sign into the account you just made for Hamachi, and create a network.
a. Name your network whatever you prefer.
b. Setup a password for everyone you plan to have access your network (meaning those
people you plan to play the game with.

6. Have your friends download, install, run, and create an account in Hamachi.

7. Give friends the Server name you created and password, so they can access your network.

8. Once they are connected have them ping the person who plans to run the multiplayer session to make sure they are getting a response back. (The reason for this step is to make sure they are not having network issues preventing you from connecting to them)
a. If you ping them and it says,"request timed out", then you will need to disable your
firewall or your antivirus or both for a time to play the game. Make to sure re-enable
your firewall/antivirus when you are done playing. (Maybe setting
up a rule to allow Hamachi to run through your firewall)

9. Whomever is running the multiplayer session, will need to setup a game and their IP address will be next to their name on their connection to the network you created for Hamachi.

10. Connect with the IP address and play. Have fun!
